Perfect location for visiting the Guggenheim-10 minute walk to the Guggenheim. Cozy charming room 2nd floor no elevator). Spotless bathroom. No air conditioning but not needed and a fan is provided.
Hint: cross the river from here and approach the Guggenheim from right bank,

Location near the railroad station, you can walk with one suitcase o backpack and just a hundred foot walk of the subway station. The river is in front of the hotel and many restaurants to take a breakfast or "pincho". If you like to walk, you can reach the Guggenheim museum trough a nice walk by the river side. The rooms are modest and there are not neither restaurant nor parking lot, but you dont need any. Good place to sleep and stay for few days

The Ripa Hotel is an average hotel for Spain. They don't have A/C so that was "warm". However, our room over looked the river. That was nice to watch all the people. We were able to walk all around this City. The Guggenheim was just down the way and so much to see. The Hotel was perfectly fine we were able to sleep and shower comfortably. Besides the way I see it I- did not travel from Bellingham, WA to Bilbow Spain to hang out in a hotel room. If it means anything wound up extending our stay for an extra night.
To mention it was a bit difficult to find the hotel. Parking is underground and it is tight. We had an SUV....we had four of us traveling across Northern Spain so we needed the space. But it was not fun in that garage! Rent a small european car. Alot of smoking so be prepared. The husband and wife who own the Hotel are very nice and as helpful as they can be. I would go stay there again. There is so much to see in Bilbow the hotel is right in the heart of it. Checkem out.

Having stayed in excellent hotels in Bilbao before this was the only one anywhere near the sights that was under €100 on Aug 21st - huge citywide festival of tortilla cooking, dancing and singing from so many stages all over the old town and the city centre. Traffic was closed off, family event, all ages present and felt very safe.
The party began in earnest from 11pm.
I have read how noisy it can be in this hotel from the disco beneath - we were there on a Tuesday so that didn't affect us - but it is right on the river, so the sound of the city wide party was going to hit us in any hotel we were staying that night.
It is a party town. We stayed in a much posher hotel last year and I was awakened at 3am with revellers spilling out onto the street nearby!
This hotel reminds me of places I have stayed in Madrid and Paris - affordable, very basic but in the thick of the action. We stepped out of our front door last night, tiptoed past the salsa dancers and had the most perfect view of the fireworks that were truly amazing at 10.30 last night.
Staff were very friendly.

This isn’t the smartest hotel that you will ever stay in but the rooms are nice enough, the bed was comfortable and everything was very clean. The chap that runs the hotel speaks excellent English and gave us some good information on where to visit (other than the Guggenheim) and where to eat. It is in a great location overlooking the river, easy to get to the Guggenheim and the old town. They charge extra for parking but it is secure.
