“Simple, yet interesting church”

Iglesia de San Juan de los Panetes
Reviewed 4 October 2017

The facade is very simple. The first thing you will notice is the leaning tower.

The interior is Baroque, but it is simple in design; not overly embellished.

It was a very popular place on a Saturday – we saw several weddings. The wide stairs make a great place for wedding photos.

If you like old churches and the reverent beauty within, this is worth a look. Beautifully sculpted statues and spectacular domes, bright and white inside, a good feeling.

This is near the Roman walls & fuente de la hispanidad (arty fountain) at the end of the Pilar plaza. Even if you don't have time to see inside the church, the leaning tower is clearly visible from the outside. I'd read that there used to be another leaning tower in Zaragoza, but it was demolished in 1892. Not as big as the one in Pisa, but worth a look whilst in the plaza.

This church is next to the Basilica de el Pilar and adjacent to the Roman wall. The interesting thing about this church is that has a leaning tower. There's some remains from the original church in romanic style (XII century) since this building burned in the XVI century and later again in the 1930"s.

Iglesia de San Juan de los Panetes is the old Romanesque church located between the Basilica de Nuestra Senora del Pilar and the Zuda Tower (Also a Tourist Info office), what is striking about this building is the leaning tower. It was on recommendation from an elderly local lady that we visited, she had stopped us in the street to tell us in Spanish what a wonderful building it was and that we shouldn't miss it.

The church was completed in 1725, unfortunately in 1935 it suffered a major fire in which a lot of the treasures were lost, because of this it is pure white inside with some ornate plaster work. It was well worth the visit, topping off our lovely experience with the local lady, with neither of us being able to speak each others language.
