The place is amazing. It is a very popular tourist site so arrive early to beat the crowds and heat. Expect to spend 2-3 hrs there.

I struggled to book a ticket to visit the Alhambra online so spent a bit more money on a guided tour with Nhue, via Viatour... But it was so worth the money. Our guide was the charming Marta, who was funny and charming and knowledgeable. The tour took over three hours and was more than enough time to see the gardens, palaces and battlements. I highly recommend Nhue... And ask for Marta!

The place itself is beautiful and has some lovely views of Granada, the gardens and the old Alhambra castles. But, as beautiful as it is you have to be careful on what your are paying for as it’s very badly organised! First of all me and my girlfriend visited the ticket office a day before for information and their reply was simply “look online.” No help what so ever, they might as well have a big sign with the website link and not give jobs to the people who are standing around to supposedly give information! So later in the evening I purchased two tickets online for 09:30 in the morning to avoid big crowds and here’s where you have to be careful as the ticket time stated is for the ‘Nasrid Palace’ and not general entry (this is put down in the little fine print on the last bit of the email confirmation!) And to make matters worse we arrived to the entrance of Alhambra at 09:30 which is the time we purchased our ticket for and bare in mind that the Nasrid palace is around a 10-15 min walk from the entrance and two different employees checked our tickets and not one of them decided to point out to us and say go straight to the Nasrid palace. Again, might as well have an automatic entrance with a scan as the employees were not helpful. So we took our time and walked in the general direction of the palace but of course we stopped and enjoyed the views as we walked and took a few pictures here and there and when we arrived to the palace it was 10am. Then we stood in a queue for the Nasrid Palace for 45 minutes and when we get to the front the employee said we are too late and that we have to purchase a new ticket bare in mind we had already paid about £30 for both tickets! So we walked to the information office inside the Alhambra and spoke to the employee that was working there, GUESS what her reply was! She said it was not their problem and it says in the small print and didn’t even try to offer us an entry ticket for just the palace! Even though I’ve seen on previous comments here that they have offered them a ticket free of charge! So don’t know why they couldn’t do the same for us! Instead she said you need to go online and purchase a new ticket! Again might as well have a computer with the website up and ready to purchase tickets as employees are clearly no help! So finally we bought another two tickets online and the only times left were 4:30pm in 36 degree heat! So this time we arrived at 4pm and had to stand in the sun with no shade! And not only that but the employee that refused our entry earlier that day - cause apparently we were an hour late in the morning, which was a lie cause we were queued up for 45 mins - allowed around 10 people who were an hour and half late in before us because they jumped the queue saying they were late so not only did I have purchase new tickets and wait in the sun for 30 mins, they also have the cheek to let people in an hour and half late after we got refused in a less busy time and we didn’t jump the queue either! We paid double the price for the palace which was beautiful to see and I recommend but bare in mind is full of huge tour groups and unhelpful members of staff.

We have just had a guided tour around the Palace with Marta our tour guide who magically bought to life the history of this beautiful palace and gardens.
We would definitely recommend a visit, and a guided tour is a must to truly appreciate all that the palace has to offer. Thank you Marta for making our trip so memorable.

Kids could explore and enjoy the audio tour like us. They thought it was a scavenger hunt! It was just breathtaking!
