We have just returned from a 5 night stay at this hotel, after booking this hotel I was a little sceptical having read a few negative comments. However, our stay at the MS Tropicana was much better than expected. On arrival we received a friendly welcome from reception, in fact throughout our stay we found staff here to be both helpful and pleasant. The room we were allocated was a pool/sea view room, excellent view, lovely to sit on balcony. The room was cleaned everyday and okay it wasn't modern but was a good size with mini fridge, safe, TV and shower over bath. This bathroom had no window and no extractor fan, which would have been beneficial, however this did not in any way ruin our experience. I think it would be fair to say however, we could hear people in the adjacent rooms if they were talking loudly or had the TV on, also above when people were walking about with shoes on. It didn't impact on our holiday as we would only hear this in the morning and for a short time in the evening.
We were on bed and breakfast, which was served until 10.30am with something for everyone. The pool area was clean and tidy albeit a small area it wasn't a problem getting a sunbed during our stay, this may have been different if in the peak season. We also had access to the pool area at the sister hotel next door (a much bigger hotel) but again I don't think access to the pool area is given during peak season. There is a bar area inside the hotel, which looked very nice we didn't make use of this as there were plenty of options outside. It is one of the older hotels and some of the features and furnishings reflect this, but all areas in the hotel were spotless, I couldn't fault it.
The location was excellent right in front of the promenade and beach. The Tropicana beach bar was also a pleasant surprise, great atmosphere serving food and drinks. The sunbeds were 5 euros for the day, which seemed to be pretty standard. From in front of the hotel you could walk into Benalmadena along the promenade or along the beach in about 10mins. In the other direction you have the rest of what La Carihuela has to offer, plenty of restaurants, shops, beach bars. You can also walk along the promenade to playa del Bajondillo and playa de Playamar and up into the centre of Torremolinos. The hotel also had a courtesy room which we booked as we were on a later flight, this was free of charge with towels included and again it was spotless. Overall we had a great stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: If you can book a sea view or side sea view room

From the outside the hotel looks really pretty as does the lobby.... unfortunately the rooms look tired and scruffy. I paid extra to get a sea view... on arriving in the room the sea view was blocked completely by another building! (See photo!!) The bathroom was very scruffy and the shower terrible. You also can't get Wi-Fi in your room. On a slight plus note there is quite a nice shower room which you can use after you've checked out if you're catching a late flight. Also the location is good...apart from the terrible karaoke singing coming from the hotel next door. Won't bother again!

Just back after a lovely week here, may be a bit old fashioned but is so clean and comfortable with friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice for all tastes. Had a lovely room to the side which overlooked the pool and the sea perfect location
