La Antigua Casa de Guardia was a pleasant reminder of the neighborhood establishments where we would go 45 years ago and pick up your jugs of wine for a reasonable price and/or just taste some wine and have some tapas. I brought back some very pleasant memories. Great Tapas, wine and atmosphere!

This bar has no pretensions and does not need them. It has limited hours, and is an aperitif venue I assume. The staff are businesslike rather than friendly, but that adds to the atmosphere. You stand at the bar and choose from the line of barrels for a tumbler to be poured from the tap. They are all local fortified wines arranged with the dryest to the left and the sweetest to the right. Vermouth (vermut) is the only one served with ice. Your tab is written in chalk on the counter top where you are stood, and you settle up when you leave. Excellent value for a bit of Spain not compromised to appeal just to the tourists.

Fascinating experience, vast selection of sherries and great to try the varieties. Do not rub out the price when they write it on the bar, this is your tab.

Travel back in time to the 19th Century at this bar where the waiters write your commands on the table with a piece of chalk as it used to be. Drink a glass of "pajarete" (Malaga wine) and enjoy the atmosphere while you scrutinize the place, its tables, original tiles, wooden doors, Malaga old pictures... I love this spot and here is where I always start my city tours with my friends from abroad. Can you find a better one?

You wouldn't stumble across this bar if you don't know about it. Hidden in a side street, the oldest bar in Malaga offers a selection of wines from the barrels, beers and spirits. The atmosphere inside is lively and cosy. A fantastic place to go to discover some of the historical and traditional social aspects of Malaga. We didn't eat the tapas, but the muscles looked amazing.
