“The Sailor Home Review”

If you’re looking for a retreat with a rural feel that isn’t too far removed from amenities, then this is the place for you. We originally booked the Gardener’s House but ended up staying in the Sailor’s House. There were 6 of us (2 adults, 4 kids aged 2 - 11) and this was our first trip to Spain.
The general location of house is pretty easy to find on GPS however Matilde sent us detailed instructions in English and a Spanish version for the taxi hired from the airport and Juan Carlos was waiting for us at the gates to take us up to the house.
The house and vast grounds are well kept with lots to keep you occupied. The swimming pools were the biggest hit but the kids also had fun on the swings and slides, shooting hoops on the basketball court, playing tennis and generally running wild! We went walking and fruit picking for mangoes, oranges, tangerines, pomegranate, custard apple and mint which we used to make tea.
Having a car is a great convenience but not necessarily required if you’re planning on staying put. There is a bus stop a few meters beyond the main gate of the estate which takes you to the sea front and right into the center of Malaga. If you do hire a car and wish to explore further afield the motorway is within easy reach.
Matilde and Juan Carlos were excellent hosts – gracious, helpful and non-intrusive. They were always available if we had any questions or needed help. Matilde kindly did some food shopping for us before we arrived as we arrived late on Sunday. She got the children some toys and books in English and Spanish from the library and she even gave us a lift to pick up our rental car. Juan Carlos was able to conjure up a buggy when the tyre on ours got a puncture.
I highly recommend this place. It is ideal for a child friendly relaxing holiday or as a base to explore the Costa del Sol.

“Beautiful space, wonderful hosts”

Finca Santa Matilda was a wonderful place for us to stay during January. Matilda and Carlos were wonderful hosts - they were friendly, helpful and brought us avocados, lemons and oranges from the garden to taste. And were always discrete and non-intrusive in how they interacted with us, which we loved The house was warm, well stocked and had a wonderful outside area which we used when the sun shone - which it mostly did. The location is great - just on the outskirts of Malaga, close to the motorway to get access to all the areas of the Provence of Malaga and nice hill walks are available directly from the doorstep of the Finca and the property. The views from above the house are spectacular. We spent one month there and saw many wonderful sights within 2 hours drive of the property.

“Nice location and fair price”
Reviewed 31 January 2015 for a stay in January 2015

Quiet peaceful location very close to main roads and Malaga. We were there when it was very cold for the area so our stay could have been more comfortable. An oven is not included so keep that in mind and the TV has very limited English speaking channels. The owners are very helpful but speak very limited English so communication is much easier via email or be prepared if you do not know any Spanish.

Management Response
11 Jan 2016
Thank you very much for your comment. Indeed your stay have coincided with some rainy days. It is not usual but, of course, sometimes it rains in Mlaga. Already several months we have changed the whole kitchen and we have incorporated an oven, an electric kettle and other equipment. The 40-inch flat TV has over 200 channels in all languages. Maybe it was not your favorite channel, but there are several channels in English. In our family there are two persons dealing to attend to English-speaking guests. They use academic English and as usual they have some difficulty understanding an overly colloquial English and pronounced without too much articulation. It is not our native language. We also speak French, and we speak Spanish with university level (two times).
