The Horus is perfectly located in a quiet part of the centre of Hamburg. It's a 5 minute walk from the harbour and the city sightseeing walk. It is also 5 minutes from Baumwall U-Bahn station which is on Hamburg's circular line, which has easy access to the centre of the city and tourist locations such as the Rathaus. It's only 30 mins from the airport on the S-Bahn and U-Bahn (use the app DB navigator and you won't go wrong).
The accommodation itself is incredibly unique. It is a working boat which is often guided down the waterways of Hamburg. It is moored up on one of the canals in a relaxing part of the city. Despite being relatively old and with a lot of history, the Horus does not expose it's age. You do have a neighbour who is moored up alongside the boat and needs to walk across the deck to get to their boat. But they're a lovely, young family who are very considerate and friendly.
The interior is perfectly designed. Everything is of high quality: the beds, the furniture, the decor, the utilities, everything is to the highest standard. There are two cabins, one which can fit a guest over 6ft 3inches. The second cabin is very small, and our friends who were 5ft 5inches were the only people who could fit it in the bed. There was also a pull-out bed for taller guests in the main living room which easily doubles up as a large bedroom which suited our third couple. Everything in the kitchen is perfectly placed and Günter has spared no expense on the crockery, utensils, cutlery and amenities. There's a small oven and hob, a dishwasher, a fridge, a Nespresso machine, a kettle, and Günter kindly dropped off some filtered water for our group.
In terms of living space, there is an area to sit in the kitchen, and a living room below deck. However, there is a seating area on deck with a BBQ which is perfect for a warm evening to pass the night with a group of friends and a few bottles of wine. There is also another seating area at the rear of the boat for a bit more privacy.
The owner, Günter is very helpful. He is prompt in answering emails and will reserve the booking for you immediately. He also maintains communication with you running right up to your arrival date. He only lives ten minutes away and is very flexible when you want to arrive and when you want to depart. He is also very helpful on the local area and giving advice on where to go and visit.
Overall, this is definitely a five star booking. It is costly and because the second cabin is quite small you may get more for your money elsewhere. HOWEVER, don't forget this is a working vessel and requires a lot more of extra maintenance than a normal booking. You pay for the location, the decor and the general high quality of everything in it. Perfect for families or two couples staying in Hamburg. You can fit three couples, as we did, if one couple is shorter than the average height! But I would recommend to anyone. Do not hesitate as this listing is a real catch!
