It’s well worth stopping here and thinking for a moment. You can walk between the blocks, sit on the ones near the edges but probably a little tactless to run around playing hide and seek

This is a fair size, which I guess reflects the size of what the Nazis did. It’s a very interesting memorial. Not obvious what it is saying by design and leaving it very much to the individual.

As was said by someone on our second visit - as people walk in, it is surprising how quickly they disappear.

That perhaps best sums it up.

The experience is marred a little by screaming, playing children running through it and children and adults who can’t resist standing on the stones and jumping despite the signs saying no to all of this. Really? This is a memorial to over 6 million murdered people. Show a little respect or stay away.

I did not go into the musuem as there was a long queue however, it is still worth just visiting the memorial. As you walk through the memorial there is a feeling of seriousness and sadness, however, this is undermined by the behaviour of some visitors such as children jumping on the memorial slabs or people sitting on them and taking selfies which is very inappropriate and discrespectful.

It's worth taking time to visit this memorial - just a few metres from the Brandenberg Gate. Take a walk through the concrete columns and listen to the silence.

An amazing piece of architecture which conveys a feeling of lonliness and despair. The high blocks in the centre evoke a feeling of isolation and a total lack of contact with the outside world - complete entrapment.
