Interesting part of the main square, though often very crowded around it. Worth taking the time to look at this whilst visiting the square.

We were here in December for the Christkindlemarkt and the guilded fountain was decorated for Christmas. There were booths surrounding it so you couldn't get up close to spin the ring but is was so beautiful and so different from anything I have ever seen.

Der schöne Brunnen (the beautiful fountain) is really that: a very beautiful old medieval fountain, located right in the middle of the Altstadt (Old Town), on the Hauptmarkt (the main market square.)

The fountain was built in the 14th century in the shape of a Gothic cathedral spire, and contains 40 figures of historical characters: the four Evangelists, the four Church Fathers, the seven Prince-electors, the Nine Worthies, Moses and seven Prophets (Hosea, Daniel, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Amos, Isaiah and Joel), and figures representing philosophy and the seven liberal arts. There are two brass rings embedded in the fence surrounding the fountain on opposite sides: they bring good luck (or so they say!) if you rub them!

Impossible to focus on this with the imposing Frauenkirch behind, the paintwork was a bit too technicolor looking and loud for my taste.

Everytime I am in Germany I go to Nuremberg to turn the ring three times. My dad is german and told me when I do that it means I hopefully get to come back to Germany to visit again.
