We had a nice enough room with a good size bathroom, however, the general ambiance of the hotel was somewhat chilly and sparse. There was a conference on at the same time as our stay and food and drinks were in the main communal areas - for the conference goers. As a hotel guest we felt unwelcome in those areas.
Breakfast was satisfactory, but overall we felt the stay was not worth the price.

I stayed at the ArtHotel for a week in March, the hotel is located in the old town and just a very short walk away from all the tourist attractions and delicious German cuisine.
The check in staff ath the hotel are lovely and are very helpful for those who don't speak German. The breakfast is delicious but leave some time as it's not very quick. There is one vegetarian option for dinner but generally the overall feel of the restaurant is lovely. The rooms are spacious, clean and warm with a daily sparkling water in your room each day.

My family travelled here for a nice family reunion in Heidelberg but our stay at this hotel made our time there very disappointing.
Although the location is very nice and the rooms and public areas very clean, the service personnel with the exception of the breakfast staff were really rude and not helpful at all.
Our room, on the top floor, was only accessible via very steep stairs and although sold to us as a "family room" this room was actually a double room with a very narrow alcove attached to it where not even the children could stand upright. The two single beds that were cramped in there were only accessible if somebody crawled into them on all fours and there was no light in this part of room either. Bathroom was large, however, here again just in the alcove where the bathtub sat, there were no lights at all!
The worst bit though was that although we had booked via Booking.com and the final price for our stay was EUR575.30 for 3 nights, upon check-out we were presented with a bill and charged an additional EUR234 as an extra for the two children in our room which had been confirmed by Booking.com including their exact ages etc on the bill of EUR575.30. When we trued to explain to the hotel management they were incredibly rude to us, saying that we "just didn't want to understand" and that Booking.com often did things like that... We hoped to hear from them after our return however although we have emailed them, nothing happened and they just charged our credit card with that additional charge for the kids...

Room Tip: Choose a room where the elevator can get to - rooms on the upper floors have difficult access over steep stairs

On our arrival we were quickly sorted by the on duty manager, including the logistics of what may be open on Christmas and Boxing Days. As expected from a good hotel, a reservation was made for dinner our first night.

Our room was clean, tidy and roomy. I would suggest you ask for Zimmer 325. It is set into the corner of the building and this seems to afford it more room. There is a bathroom to get lost in.

We had dinner on Christmas night which was flawless and breakfast throughout our stay was Continental with eggs added if wanted....sure not the sometimes hearty home made type, but appropriate for our needs.

Pretty well smack bang in the middle of the old town, and a few steps from the bus, it is a very accessible hotel.

Room Tip: Zimmer 325, although it is accessed by a flight of stairs, after leaving the lift

Excellent hotel in an excellent city. We loved the split level room, superb bathroom, really good service, and prime location for Christmas markets, castle and bridge. Breakfast was superb with friendly staff and lovely setting in the restaurant.
Would love to go back.
