Had a lovely stroll through the gardens. I took the difficult way there and it was quite challenging, but certainly worth it!

After crossing the bridge from the old town, we went up via the (signed) Slangenpath or snake path, which winds between high walls for the first part and alternates between cobbles and stone steps. wear preferably good walking shoes with some grip. It is quite a way up, but on reaching the Philosophers path it evens out and becomes a pleasant walk with some spectacular views across and along the valley with the old and new towns, the Neckar river and the castle opposite.

Very nice views of the city, nice and quiet and not too demanding a walk. Well worth a trip, bring some water.

I do not think this place deserves to be ranked #3 in the top things to do in Heidelberg. It is definetly not worth the steep walk. Going up as well as going down was extremely difficult and tiring. The worst part is that, even though it is the "#3" attraction and it was a warm and sunny national holiday in Germany, it was quite empty. The path goes through a forest, there is very little signalization. As a female solo traveller, it is A NO GO AREA! Especially very uphill, there is no phone signal/internet signal. Thankfully I found a restaurant and I asked for the way back, Google Maps was not reliable and was sending me to go down through a bike path in the middle of the forest! Don't waste your time! Maybe in group it is a cool adventure but alone it is only traumatic and desperating.

We enjoy a good walk and this didn't disappoint us, lovely walking through the town and then the forests, with amazing view back across the river towards the Castle. The paths were good and for us proved no issues in good trainers. There are plenty of places to get food and drink once you cross back over onto the other side of town.
