I always make sure that I visit Martin's Brau when in Freiburg. The choice of food on the menu is excellent and is all freshly prepared in front of you in the open kitchen. There's a wide choice of beers available too. A great atmosphere - long tables and benches so one has to make friends with whoever one is seated next to!
Great service and good value for money.

You will find very good beers here as well as sausages, schweinhaxen and other German delights!

We visit whenever we are in town, sometimes more than once.

The waitstaff are very accommodating in finding seating. Don't expect a private booth.

The beer is very good.

The food is always delicious.

And the price is right, but remember, it is cash only.

Be prepared to wait on a Saturday night.

We had lunch here hence we didn't have beer with our meal - if we had, we'd have been ready for a nap after lunch.

When you enter the restaurant you pass the kitchen which is open so you can see the meals being prepared. We had the Spätzel with mushroom sauce and the Käsespätzel both delicious and very generous serving sizes. What we saw others being served was jaw-dropping, huge servings of Schweinehaxen, Würste, Sauerkraut and Knödel.

Definitely worth a visit.

Real German feel. Long Tables in a cellar. In-house brewed choice of regular pils or their monthly speciality beer. Typical German food. Friendly waiters
The Black Forest plate comprises pork knuckle, ham, sausages, plus masses of tasty Sauerkraut, roast sliced potatoes and a delicious sauce. Couldn't find it on the English menu, but it's Schwarzwaldplatte on the German one, and advertised in a window outside. €32 for two people, as I recall. And do share a slice of Black Forest Gateau.
It's too enormous for one !

Waiters are very correct and even, sympathetic. Going to dinner or lunch here is a nice experience. Beer is made on place and served at the place.
