This hotel has been modernised well. The theme is based round lots of German writers who have stayed here. But this was lost on us as we had only heard of Gunter Grass. But it gave the hotel a nice feel with lots of books around the place.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful.
I personally did not like our bedroom and it had two single beds at angles to each other. So it felt like a children's room or for a student, not for a couple. But it did not worry my husband.
The bathroom was adequate, but had very small bath towels and no towelling dressing gown
The breakfast was OK but not wonderful.
The hotel is in a good position to walk to the Old Town. It is a city centre hotel, so not quiet. The parking was wonderful under the hotel.

Room Tip: It is a city hotel, so not quiet. If you are a couple go for one large bed, not two small beds.

Just over the Alps from Zurich this small university town of Freiburg has multiple, well-earned green credentials (arguably Germany's finest) and manifold bright young students as befits a University town. Right at its heart and five minutes walk from the station lies the very fine gem of a boutique experience, the Park Hotel Post.
Celebrating writers past and present the attention to detail and design is thoroughly charming, the staff warm and engaging and the breakfast gemutlich (warm and inviting) - if you find yourself in this cozy city, nestled beneath the famous Schwarzwalder (Black Forest), don't pass up the opportunity to stay at the PHP.

We spent 2 nights here in 2 rooms. For some reason nobody in our group slept well. Our room was a bit warm but opening the window brought in way too much noise from the street. It is near a university so young people are out and loud until the wee hours. Shutting the window reduced most of that noise.

I did not realize parking was an additional charge until receiving the bill. It seemed a bit steep but the parking attendant was obnoxious and chauvinistic and he was basically our first real interaction with hotel staff.

The hotel is clean and just out side old town by about 1 minute walking so good location. It is not necessarily a cozy or homey hotel but friendly and ok price.

I have never been to a more lovingly administered and thoughtfully arranged city hotel. The first thing to say: people working there are charming, and I can guess that they are happy to work in this great little hotel. They have considered every little detail a person could need to feel fully comfortable. Some little ones that fascinated me: there is a very modestly placed radio in the bathroom, there are several electricity plugs close to the bed, . The decoration might be too much for minimalists, but I am not one: I quite liked the idea of displaying information on the wines produced in the region, the changing carpets with nature motives, the red chandelier in the breakfast room, and the books! All those beautiful books and poetry in every corner! The facade is beautiful, but inside, it only gets better: this place has CHARACTER. I am raving about this hotel because I can hardly think of anything that could be better. On top of that, a delicious breakfast buffet: a delicious selection of options, including excellent fresh bread, high-quality local products and the most attentive service. The bathroom is not big and not small: it is the right size. The shower is spotlessly clean and you get a gentle but broad water stream. They have an ecologic approach to toiletteries (well done! May I suggest offering also some moisturizer in the same type of refill bottle?). If you want to take advantage of the books that surround you in every room, there are powerful spotlights that are however easy on the eye and have no ugly white/blue glow. They have good windows for you to have a quiet sleep. And you will have a good night sleep in their comfortable beds with high quality linen. To top the "classic" welcome drink -which in this place is totally your choice, from juice to wine-, they also have fresh fruits in the reception at all times, sweets and snacks. An apparently ordinary hotel, where you'll find an extraordinary experience. I cannot wait to be back in this lovely city and I know where I will be staying.

We were in Freiburg for business. The hotel is perfectly located and the breakfast (included in the rate) is exactly what you need before heading out. The rooms, though, are on the small side, but the beds are very comfortable.
