Booked this hotel cause thought it would be quaint / romantic. Instead it was super plain and boring. Also looked forward to the restaurant but when arrived found it closed earlier in 2015 - so out of luck.

Up either a hill or a ton of steps so if you're unfit, disabled, or have health issues - good luck.

The rooms are small and there's no safe. Additionally they give you exactly ONE small pillow on the bed. I had a single room - spoke to a couple with a bigger room and they verified ONE pillow for them as well. Classic.

Reception is removed from the main entry area and really the only time you'll see staff is arrival / departure - they're just 'removed' as well.

Good location - a few decent tourist restaurant right down the steps - but no convenience stores nearby. Very close to the spas.

Give you this massive key to carry around, but was able to separate mine from giant piece of metal (thankfully). (electronic locks anyone?)

Wouldn't stay here again, but don't really regret it - it was what it was.
If you think it will be a charming little romantic hotel - think again.

Dear Guest "blackrice",

Thank you for staying with us and for your review. You reviewed in total 10 hotels on all your travels - and only 1 of them deserved a 4 out of 5(?), all the others received 1-3 out of 5 points. So either you have a very bad luck choosing hotels, or your critiques are just a bit harsh. I can not find your booking, so I do not know when and if you stayed with us (I have not had a single guest from NY for a long time). Our restaurant was closed on May 1, 2015 and I have personally informed all websites and platforms and every guest with existing bookings and allowed them to cancel their stay for free, if having a restaurant in the hotel was important for them. Not one person cancelled, since there are 15 restaurants in 10 minutes walking distance. All our rooms and pillows are displayed on Tripadvisor and other booking sites. We gladly provide more than one pillow per guest free of cost, if requested. There is a safe at the reception, which is removed from the main entry by exactly 4 steps. Alone on Tripadvisor more than 170 reviews prove that our staff is never "removed", but that we truly care about our guests and try to make their stay as nice as possible. There are 2 convenience stores just down the steps. Since we are a historic 4 stars hotel, we have decided not to use electronic locks. Again I am truly sorry that you had a disappointing stay, since just talking to one of our staff would have made it so much better- more pillows, safe, convenience stores and great restaurant suggestions, etc. For your next stay at any hotel, please consider talking to hotel staff as soon as something is missing. They might be able to help you have a great memorable trip.

We spent three nights at this hotel, and while the hotel and room were clean and comfortable to be honest I was expecting a bit better. Our room was on the third floor of the hotel so basically was an attic room. It was split into two small rooms with a bathroom. One of the rooms had a bed settee in it so it could probably sleep at least one other person, but would be a bit cramped if this was done. The room was adequate and comfortable enough and spotlessly clean, but I don't think it was of the standard of the rooms shown in the hotels advertising photographs. The bathroom was large, and while it had clearly been updated would benefit from a full modernisation. The sink appeared to be reasonably new, but was very small. The shower was over the bathtub, which was a shame as the bathroom was big enough to benefit from a stand alone shower. My wife has just had her hip replaced so found getting in and out of the bath a bit of a struggle. I regularly stay in hotels all over Europe and the UK and would have expected a bit better for the money I paid. The hotel is centrally located and very close to the two main spas in Baden Baden, the town centre, casino and restaurants, however beware it is on a hill. I am reasonably fit, but it was not much fun climbing the hill/steps when returning to the hotel, but having to then climb two steep flights of stairs to the room was frankly a bit of a struggle especially for my wife. To be fair to the staff they were excellent, and if we had requested a room change they may well have obliged, but we decided to put up with the room we had been given. This was perhaps a mistake on our behalf. The dining room where breakfast was taken was a lovely room full of old world German charm, and we we liked the ambience here while we enjoyed a traditional breakfast. There is free wifi throughout the hotel, and the mini bar in the room was reasonably priced. In summary I would recommend this hotel, but at the prices the hotel charges on it's own website I would expect a room of the standard they show on the website. Request a room on the first or ground floor. The top floor room we were given, in my opinion was not really worth the money we paid for it.

Room tip: Ask for a first floor room

Dear Guest "David", thank you so much for staying with us and sharing a detailed justified critique. I am so sorry, that your wife and you had an ordeal climbing the stairs! The stairs are the only thing we cannot change. You are right, we would have given you a different room in a heartbit if we would have known that you did not like it, or had troubles with the stairs. The advantages of that double room are a big size, and 2 rooms (over 35m2, which would be a junior suite) and a very quiet location. The disadvantages are the stairs and bathtub. We are a small hotel and the historic building does have some limitations on the improvements we can make. Please give us another chance for your next stay in Baden-Baden and we hope to delight you the next time!

The hotel is close to the Thermal Baths and not far from the Kur Park and Christmas Markets. By staying there I received a discount for the thermal bath that I went to. The hotel is in an old building and is not large and impersonal. The room was spotlessly clean and quiet despite the window being directly next to public steps. The breakfast provided plenty of choice. The only negative is that despite there being space in the room there were no tea or coffee making facilities. I think that this is often the case in German hotels.

Location is great. Right in the middle of beautiful historic Baden-Baden. Car GPS gets the directions wrong to make sure you know where you are going ahead of time. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is great, don't miss it! Stairs were not an issue for us but might be for some.

We went to Barden Barden for the Christmas market & the Hotel Rathausglöckel seemed to look like a good choice. We were not disappointed as this small quaint and very German hotel was excellent, very clean with good sized rooms and very close to the old town. The staff were very courteous and friendly. The hotel is very lucky to have Sebastian & Anita on their staff as the were both really helpful beyond the call of duty, recommending restaurants & bars & also arranging tickets for a trip to Heidelberg. BB is a lovely little town which is really pretty this time of year & well worth a visit

Room tip: ask for a larger room as some are quite small
