This is one of Lyon’s small family-run Bouchons, centrally located in the Old Town and, despite a somewhat unimposing exterior, surely one of the best; we had done our research beforehand and were not disappointed. On arrival, we were warmly greeted, and seated at one of only about six tables in the ancient and atmospheric ‘front room’. Having been guided through the options, we were treated to some exceptional cuisine – notably including a delicious foie gras and lentil starter – with dishes well-prepared and beautifully-presented. Wines were reasonably priced, the service impeccable, and the whole ambience delightful. An altogether warmly memorable occasion. Most highly recommended.

After two days our systems needed a break from Lyon's finest (I suppose we could have started sending half of each dish back uneaten), so we walked the 15 minutes to Le Boeuf. We were first in for an early dinner, and the welcome was only perfunctory.
We ordered one of the menus (about €43) and two courses from the a la carte. Once our young waitress brought the amuse-gueules (why are they called 'bouches' nowadays?) we were reassured that the we had chosen well. The meal progressed tastily and elegantly, the place filled up, the manageress became friendly, the wines by the glass were quite interesting, and the chef sent out a message apologising for not coming out to speak to us in person ...
In my part of UK this meal could have cost at least 50% more; the quality of the dishes mostly were up to Michelin star quality, so as an antidote to the Bouchons, I think Le Boeuf deserves a top mark.

This is a superb little restaurant. We went for the ‘ temptation’ menu where the chef decides and you don’t know until it turns up - good choice. The balance and variety were excellent and the food itself was amazing. The wine list was not massive but with the quality of what was there it wasn’t an issue with a number of superb local wines.
Setting and atmosphere were really lovely
Hard to beat this one I think

Top quality food! Had 3 course set menu! Fillet steak was superb! Had a decent bottle of wine but at €170 for 2 people, not cheap...

My boyfriend and I went to Le boeuf d'argent in October.
We were quite disappointed by the appearance of the restaurant which looks quite traditional and old.
Though, the food is excellent and the employees very kind.
The restaurant was very busy when we went there, and we had to wait one hour to get our first dish, which was quite annoying.
But very good experience!
