We spent a week in this apartment couldn't have been happier with our choice. Located right in the heart of the city and not far from Place Terreaux it's within easy walking distance to most of the major sights in the central area of Lyon. Transit connections are very handy - a nearby bus stop provides a direct connection to the railway station (Part Dieu) and its direct link to the airport while the metro station (Hotel deVille) is about three blocks away .
Located on the first floor in a lively neighborhood the apartment is an easy walkup with a very secure entry arrangement. It looks out onto a small one-way street that's relatively quiet for being right in the center of things. In addition to the (seemingly) three or four thousand restaurants in the immediate vicinity there's a nice small supermarket right across the street.
The listing description and photos are accurate and give an idea of the high-quality of work and thought that went into the restoration of this apartment. It's a nicely laid out and decorated space and the overall treatment combined with the high open-beam ceilings provide a real sense of its history. The street-facing wall is mostly windows and open up so there's plenty of fresh air if needed. Heavy dark drapes take care of the privacy aspects.
Then there's the kitchen. Big, well designed, with good equipment, and fully furnished with all the utensils, pots, pans and standard countertop appliances you would tend to have at home. And a full-size refrigerator! Everything was in working order and very clean upon our arrival. Easily the best kitchen we've encountered in numerous rental apartments in Europe.
Located at the rear of the apartment the main bedroom is rather small but has opening windows onto a very large light well so there's good ventilation without any street noise. The bed itself is plenty large with a very good mattress and we slept well. While the bedroom has nightstands and a dresser, the closet space is located to the front of the apartment adjacent to the other bedroom and living room. The second bedroom is a small free-standing room located next to the kitchen and living room. With room only for a bunk bed it would be just fine for kids.
The small bathroom is very nicely designed and has an excellent shower. As with the kitchen, everything was super clean and in good working order upon our arrival.
The decent sized flat screen television is great but we would have enjoyed having some English language channels. There's a combination radio/Ipod unit that works well as did the Wi-Fi connection.
As far as working with the apartment owner, the information provided on the web site is accurate and from initial contact to our arrival and checkout everything was professionally handled. All our inquiries were quickly responded to and, overall, the communication was excellent. It was a pleasure doing business with Alexis and, yes, we will definitely stay in this apartment when we return to Lyon.
