The Trocadero is a good middle-class restaurant in the busy 6.district of Lyon. Dishes are traditional and Lyonnaise accented with attentive and courteous staff. Nice, bright modern interior with enough space between the tables. Prices okay, wine list compact, but well chosen.

The menu was limited but the qulaity of food was very good. The Manager and the staff were more or less typiclly polite but they failed to present willingness and to ensure an authentic feeling of trust. Overall the place didn'tgive us the pleasurewe were looking for. The prices were acceptable.

I always think it's a useful signal of quality when you enter a restaurant and find it full of locals. In this case middle aged French couples. And clearly out with friends too.

So probably not for youngsters looking for a noisy evening but for us ideal signs.

And that positive impression proved justified.

Friendly experienced waiters serving great traditional French food.

Starter for me was smoked salmon which arrived as inch wide think strips of lovely oaky smooth fish. Nothing like the salty thin farmed stuff we often get at home.

Main course for me tonight was also fish - a side of bream. Lovely crispy skin on one side and fresh white flesh underneath. All sat on a nice tangy sauce and shredded pickled vegetables.
