Beautiful Basilica very well preserved. A very large crypt and an inner chapel dedicated to Mary.
Outside, a balcony with a beautiful view of Lyon and an S garden that descends to St Jean.

Started our trek from Old Lyon, it was a very peaceful walk to get to the top. Once you get to the top, the Basilica is such an imposing building. Very stunning on the outside and the inside is even more grandeur. There are great viewpoints of the city, so it’s a great photography spot! Don’t forget to walk to the Roman amphitheater which is very close by.

Two churches, one above the other, with a great explanation of the road to Santiago. Incredible. You should visit it.

Must see when visiting Lyon. Inside is breathtaking. I have visited numerous churches throughout Europe and this church stands out from the rest. Loved all the mosaics located throughout this church.

It is a pleasant climb from river level to the high ground on which the basilica sits. If you enjoy visiting churches, the beautifully decorated, spacious nave of this one will be worth your while, in particular, the mosaics on the walls. There are several points of interest - statue of Pope (now Saint, as a hand-written addition in Sharpie on the plaque notes) John Paul II in front of the church and the crypt, which features replicas of statues of Notre Dame from around the world, some of which I have visited. If the inside of the church does not appeal, it is monumental and impressive in its whiteness from the outside, and perhaps the best views of Lyon can be had from this location. It is a short walk to the Roman ruins, so not the only destination to justify the climb - and there are alternative means of transportation to get up the hill, although I did not make use of them.
