This was a disappointing hotel for the money. Service on arrival was good but the prestige room was very small and disappointing. There was only 1 elevator working and it was very slow. Breakfast was poor with no service at all. Location good but stay somewhere else for the money. Not sure why it is 4 star.

Perfect location and helpful/friendly staff. Breakfast was nice on the terrace with many food options available. The hotel is older and could be refreshed however it suited our family as we were out and about most of the day. I would stay there again.

Room Tip: 4th floor was very quiet

I am normally not a complainer when I travel - I like to stay at 4 stars hotels or above, and therefore I never feel like I get disappointed. Until now.
We booked this holiday through a package, so the hotel came with it. It is labelled as 4 stars, and to be honest, from the grand facade, to the nice reception, it seems it would have all the right prerequisites. However:
- the rooms were quite small, and the aircon was as useful as a paper fan. We put the setting on 5 degrees (the minimum) and it was boiling hot at night.
- the wardrobe sliding doors were really stiff to move along.
- one of the lifts (there were 2) broke on the first day we were there, and by the end of our 4 nights stay it still hadn't been fixed. We didn't mind getting the stairs, but there are about 6 floors (with 30 steps in between each floor, yes sadly I counted...LOL), so for people with difficult mobility it's not ideal, or they'd have to wait for the one lift.
- We normally we were out all day but on 2 occasions we came back to the room in the middle of the day (once at 1ish, and once at 2:45) and the room still hadn't been made up! The second time, they were just getting to it, at 3pm, so we had to wait in reception. I am not sure if the hotel is understaffed, or if they just start room cleaning late, but in a 4 stars hotel I'd expect rooms to be done by lunch, at least.
- Our package included a free bottle of wine. I asked reception on the last afternoon for it, and they said they'd check. I asked if we could pick the colour, they said no. What's the point in offering a free bottle of wine if you can't pick the colour? Anyway, the wine ended up being a rose', and it was nice, but other people could have a strong preference or dislike towards a colour, so I thought that was not the best customer service.

To find some positives:
- Good location, just opposite the Promenade des Anglais. To get right up to the old town and the Galeries Lafayette it's about a 10-15 minutes walk, but at least it's not too busy
- Good choice of TV channels in the room (English, Italian, German, etc).
- The porters spoke 3 languages (French, English, Italian).

On a different note, if you are getting from the airport to Nice, DO NOT use local taxis. They charged us a fortune (without a metre), about 38 euros for a 10 minutes drive. Get an Uber instead, for 18-25 euros at peak time.

Dear Valentina
Thanks for your comprehensive review .
We do overall appreciate the mentionned details though we need to provide some informations which would clear out your subjectivity.
Dated 1842 the West End is an historical hotel and you were impressed by the architecture and the ambience.
All our rooms do not have the same size and depends on your reservation.
Classic and Privilege rooms are among the small size rooms and Deluxe or Junior suites offer a wider space.
For your next stay do please contact us, all our staff will be delighted to suggest you the most adequate room depending on your expectation and budget.
Air conditionning unit are working properly with windows kept closed and with a thermostat regulated between 18 to 20° Celsius. Should any misfunction happen then our technicians can help you to solve it within the same day.
One of our lift is temporarily out of service for technical inspection which require several days before all safety controls are completely done.
We do regret this inconvenience but everyone can undestand that it is done for better comfort and safety for all our guests.
During your stay, the room can be prepared up to your prefered time.
You just need to inform the reception and the maids will do so accordingly.
The complimentary bottle of wine included in the promotional package is a bottle of rosé.
It is a gift , which is highly appreciated on summer by a wide majority of guests.
Other wines are also available from the restaurant selection with an additional charge.
We are sure you would appreciate your next stay with us and are all looking forward to welcoming you back.
We remain at your service for any addtional informations , you may need.
Kind regards

Stayed for 4 nights.
Loved the location as you just cross the road to get to the Promenade des Anglais, and many other places of interest are within walking distance. We arrived early and the reception staff helpfully stored our luggage. We were in double room prestige on the 6th floor. Fairly clean room with minimalist decor. I prefer plush decor and was expecting this as old hotel. Bed was not ideal as we requested double bed but had two singles which were not well secured together made up as double.

There was quite a strong odour of damp in the room which was lessened by us leaving the balcony door open with the ac on. Odour was definitely in the bedroom and it really hit us on our return to the room on our first day when we hadn’t left the balcony door open. We did not bother to complain as tolerable with the adjustments we’d made. We tried to contact housekeeping and reception when our room hadn’t been cleaned when we got in for a break around 3pm but no one picked the phone in spite of several tries. Chambermaid did arrive to clean the room around 3.30 pm. Good supply of toiletries and towels.

Breakfast was just average in terms of the food. Items ran out and staff needed to be called to replenish things. In fact on one morning bacon ran out over 30 mins before the closing time and was not replenished even though we drew the attention of staff to this several times. I just got a sense of staff who were quite slow in their delivery with some showing very little enthusiasm for the job. Another disappointing experience was the workmen polishing the entrance to the hotel with no provision made for the safety and convenience of the hotel guests. The lounge area looked dated and uninviting.

Overall at the cost of €1000 for 4 nights, we were expecting more. Location is important but not everything and more needs to be done to make this hotel more appealing.

Thank you for taking enough time t write such a long review about your stay.
Hopefully your overall stay has been satisfactory and that's the most important.
Your very personnal and subjective comments are yours and we do take notice of them and of course consider it with care.
Therefore we do regret the bitterness of your words which reveal a frustration driving everyone too far from the reality of our service.
We are all ready to assist our guests during their stay and suggest them all the various options we have to satisfy each and everyone.
Therefore beside our regrets we would like to clear out your point of view.
Should you prefer a more classic style in term of decoration , please ask for it. We do have a wide variety of rooms all decorated that way. We would have been happy to move you in one of them.
Like in many other hotels in the world , some of our rooms may be prepared in two separated beds or one double.
All our beds are specifically made for hotels and are definitely safe and secure either way.
Please note also that our maids cannot be contacted directly but reception can easily be called dialing simply : 9 for any request , you may have.
Also should you come down in the breakfast room a few minutes before closing time, then the buffet may not be completely replenished but our waiters can easily provide you all the items ,you may wish. Just ask...
Finally our lobby floor has been polished and vitrified to make it brighter. This treatment has been started in the early morning and the end of it later with cleaning sessions.
We are all sure you will not update now your comments and we would also stress upon the willingness and the efficiency of all our staff to make everyone's stay the most memorable one.
Kind regards

The hotel purports to be 4 star and in reality is no more than 3 star. We stayed in a superior double room with a sea view , which was small by any normal standard and whilst adequately furnished it was tired. The carpet was badly marked and well worn needing replacement. The bathroom was adequate as was the separate toilet. Everything worked. We were there for 4 nights and the coffee was not replaced once we used the two provided. The first night we booked in the hotel's restaurant, Siecle, and although the staff were welcoming and friendly the service of food was slow. The food itself was very disappointing so much so other than the breakfast which was included we did not eat in the hotel again. The breakfast was adequate and nothing special and was serve yourself at the buffet hot and cold. Restocking of items was slow once it ran out which was frequent. All the staff were friendly and helpful and made you welcome and the hotel was clean. We will not be returning to that hotel.
