Owner description: A picturesque city square in Nice's historic quarter.
Reviewed 28 June 2018 via mobile

Named after one of Napoleon Bonaparte’s’ Marshals who was born in Nice when it was part of the Kingdom of Sardinia.

Great place to stroll at night.

A nice place with Gallerie Lafayette at one end and the Fountain of the Sun in the other. Between them, you will find figures mounted on high stitches. When it becomes dark the figures light up in different colors - very nice.

Typical of many of the city square in France and Belgium. The colours of the buildings around the statues make it a little different to the usual.
There is almost always a lot of people shopping and children playing here. Pretty to walk through while doing some shopping or catching lunch. It is also close to the park.

One of the biggest if not the biggest sqaure in the city. Full of people all the time. While I was there a big portion of it was closed becouse of a concert they were setting up "Fête de la musique". It's tonight so go watch if you are there by any chance. Full of shops, bars etc. It's almost next to the sea.

The Place Massena is one of the highlights of Nice on the Cote d'Azur. It is at its best at the cocktail hour when the sun is gradually descending and the light is gentler.

The square is dominated by the Hotel Massena, less ostentatious than the Hotel Negresco on the seafront but just as expensive. It's the place to go for a drink or stay there for a special occasion.

In recent years, the Place Massena has become a focus for carefully selected but still challenging contemprorary art, especially large works of sculpture which were commissioned to harmonise with the architecture of the square and the surroundings.

The square is pedestrianised, although one should be aware of the trams that suddenly run through the middle of it and keep out of their way. This also applies to the many skateboarders. But there are many cafes and restaurants where you can have a coffee, rest and repose or enjoy a well-prepared meal.
