After a long drive South from Calais, we didn't spend long in the room before making for the pool for a welcome dip.
Our room had a lovely view out over the car park and surrounding industrial buildings, but to be fair most city hotels lack a sea view.
Our room was ok, a decent sized double bed and single sofa bed, TV (never switched on), kettle, basic stove and a fridge. The kitchenette had enough pots and pans to cook a simple meal and eat in on the table and chairs (or out on the balcony), but being so near the town we ate out at night and picked up breakfast on our way to the beach. The staff were welcoming and the hotel & room were clean and reasonably priced.
It's also just 5 minutes walk to either; the Marina heading West or North for views out over the town; or just a straight 10 minutes walk to the centre / Vieux Port, which is fantastic and worth a tour of the Tours (Towers)!
It's about a 20 minute drive to the bridge to the Ile de Re, which you must visit if you're anywhere near La Rochelle.
Overall a decent, reasonably priced, well located (unless you like to be really central) hotel with a small pool. A good base to explore the area for a few days, which we did before heading South to Bordeaux.More
