First time I have stayed in a 2 star hotel. It feels more like a 3 star with relatively modern and pleasent decor both in rooms and hall/stairway. Really nice building and location. Very friendly staff. Great location mext to the daily market. Highly
Recommend this if you are looking for a comfortable stay in a good location for under €100.

We stayed here for one night. The room we were given was grim. The room was warm, noisy, and tiny. The location is good however so I'd stay again in the neighborhood just not here. When we were checking out someone cleaning the rooms threw down a plastic cup which nearly hit the receptionist on the head and us...

We were at the end of a very hot day and had been out most of the day enjoying the sun . We were very tired and wanted a nice meal . The waiter was very nice, charm as well as Whitt . We sat for 5 mins before our order was taken . We waited quite some time before our drinks arrived(excess of 15mins)Eventually they did and they were very nice cocktails. We seemed to wait a eternity before our main meal arrived, having got through 2 servings of bread and a whole bottle of water as well as our cocktails.
The quality of the food was good , however the quantity was poor , I could of eaten it three times over. I had the thick hake which from my photo you will see was the 2 tail ends. Not impressed with value for money . After finishing our meal we waited again having to ask for our bill as we could not face the waiting any longer. The place got very busy and it seemed like just 2 people taking orders serving and clearing tables. Very slow. We paid and went to Les Colonnes for coffee.

Sorry , but i think this is a misunderstood between HOTEL DE LA PAIX ( we have no restaurant at all ) and CAFÉ de LA PAIX.
Dear guest , before to leave a comment, (and specially when it is a bad one) can you please
make sure what you are talking about .

Best regards

i'm not sure what the rest of the hotel is like, it looked pretty nice, but it was a busy holiday time, and as we were there just one night we got the worst room, and there was no room to move us ( i asked) room 30 has one window onto a semi covered seating area, so its dark and unless you're an exhibitionist you're gonna keep the curtain drawn, its right next to reception and not very soundproof. The shower leaks, no toiletries, i'm 5'9'' and my feet hung off the bed!, functional for 1 night, i'm sure the rest of the hotel is better.

Room Tip: avoid room 30

The hotel is well situated in La Rochelle, and very handy for the town and the harbour. The reception was friendly and efficient, and the room clean and reasonably comfortable. I do feel that a hand held shower is not adequate, however. But the hotel suited us, as it was only for a single night as a rest and a break from the driving north. Imagine our dismay, then, when what appeared to be a staff dinner and birthday party was in full swing when we returned from our meal at around 10.30pm. There were around two dozen guests, loud music and a lot of cheering and singing. The noise went on until well after midnight, and kept my partner awake till around 1am. Not great when you have a long drive in front of you the following day. We tried to shut the noise out, but even with the shutters closed, the windows shut and pillows over our heads, you could still hear the noise. And to cap it all, breakfast was wholly inadequate. Stewed coffee, no orange juice, stale pastries - I could go on.
