This is a ruin, but it played an important part in French/English history and is linked to Richard 1. There are information boards everywhere explaining its history and by the time you have visited you would have improved your history knowledge of this era.

A bit of a climb but worth it for the view alone. We actually were very politely offered a retired persons discount (not usual in France).

So you build this great fortress on a hill surrounded by three moats and multiple layers of defenses. It has a deep well, food for your army for 2 years. ... and then build a chapel, but it's too dark, so you make some windows - in the outer wall?! Not a good idea - and the castle rapidly falls. Just one of the little quirks in the history of Richard the Lion Hearted' great fort!

Fun place to hike up to from Les Andyls

Again, you are sold nothing. I.e. for the entrance price (€3.5) you are given ruins, plus 6 posters on the walls, with the history of the place. But the Seine panorama around, which you can admire without entering is magnificent.

Castle is on the top of a steep hill, but is worth the climb. The path levels out as you get close to the top. The view of the Seine river and the town below is very nice. The castle itself is mainly ruins although there is a section where for a few Euros you can go inside (we did not do that). There are public rest rooms at the bottom of the hill just before the main section of the town.
