The atmosphere is very french style with many Cafés and Restaurants and the tables outside. Excellent stop by if the weather is pleasant.

Nice place to have a drink outside - weather permitting of course. I suggest that you choose one of the bars (there are many), sit outside, have a drink and enjoy Place Saint Jacques. Good spot to unwind! Then at the end of the afternoon you can go to see a movie at the Palace. The Palace is a movie theater with the main entrance is Place Saint Jacques.

We didn't plan on visiting Metz so it just consisted of walking around and finding places. We didn't find a lot of things to do (with no research) so it wasn't one of my favourite places. There are a lot of shops but not a lot of touristy ones. There is a nice shopping mall which was good (and had a really posh car park) but that's about it.

We ate at a number of different restaurants in Place Saint Jacques and there is quite a cross section of food, everything from subway to an Australian themed restaurant. What was interesting though was that on Sunday's many of them are closed. Other than the restaurants in the square there is a Mall. If you are looking for a supermarket, "Simply" is located in the basement of the Saint Jacques Mall located at the northern end of Place Saint Jacques.
