We had an incredible introduction to what was our first of several markets we visited during our stay in southern France. This was probably our favorite one, as the size was manageable and very close to where we were staying. Grab some cheese, olives, fresh bread, and charcuterie, and head over to Pont du Gard for a picnic lunch. Not a bad way to spend a day in Languedoc!

When went mid week and there was a good selection of meats, cheeses, olives, bread and honey. The vendors speak just enough english, but if an individual could speak passable french it would help.

We stayed in an air B & B just off the market place. The market is great and the town is beautiful! We just loved it in Uzes. You can walk the lovely streets. See the beautiful architecture or just enjoy browsing the quaint shops . This town was a highlight of our trip even in November . The leaves were just turning and it was gorgeous. Driving in the town is another matter. Streets are very tight and confusing and parking is hard to find . We had to park 10 to 15 minutes away from our home but THAT'S FRANCE we have learned.

After shopping in the outdoor market, we lunched here, in a lovely restaurant called Les Terroirs, a delicious and popular bistro in the market square. This is good to know because, after shopping for many of the lovely local foods offered in the market, you will be very hungry!

The market is held on Wednesday and Saturday. The Wednesday market is much smaller and more food focused. It’s a lot of fun and the merchants are used to speaking Rnglish if required. We live Uzes, have been there many times and thoroughly recommend it. Be a little careful of the fresh fruit and vegetables. They will not last for a long time as they are fresh, that’s the point, they are not treated like Supermarket F&V. Also get to the market early it’s more fun and it does get VERY crowded later in the day.
