“Good location but cannot recommend the flat”
Reviewed 6 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

Firstly, I should say that the flat was generally clean and tidy and it’s a great location, at 10 minutes’ pleasant walk along the canal side to reach the centre or similar walking time to the railway station. However, I could not recommend it for older people (we are in our 60’s) because (a) it’s on the 2nd floor, no lift, with narrow steep stairs so not ideal for getting your luggage up and down and (b) the bed is only just off floor level; not so easy to get down to or up from, with very sharp corners which are hard to miss given that the bedroom is quite small.

Actually I would struggle to recommend it to anyone because of various niggles which took the edge off our stay. The fridge is absolutely tiny, stand a wine bottle in the door and it will fall out the next time you open the door. Hot water comes from a boiler on the wall and the water intake to the flat prioritises the toilet cistern over the boiler, so after you flush the loo don’t expect to get hot water in the basin any time soon! Take care as you sit on the toilet seat as it is not properly fixed in place and, continuing on the subject of the bathroom, the hand basin is a very modern design, only 3” deep, so as soon as you wash your hands in it you will start up a tidal wave from side to side. Oh, and the bottom drawer on the basin unit fouls against the drain pipe, so on day 2 we had a flooded drawer to contend with. However, once you master the hot water issue, the shower is actually very good!

The flat has a/c, heated towel rail, radiator in the bedroom, microwave, washing machine and oven. What is lacks are any instructions on how to use this equipment! And I won’t mention the TV/DVD player which remained a mystery to me. All the doors foul against the floor unless you lift them slightly as you shut them.

The owners are perfectly pleasant but live one hour’s drive away so don’t expect any immediate reactions to anything you might need. I really think they need to come and spend a few days living in the flat to appreciate all its minor inconveniences. We have stayed in self-catering accommodation in other Mediterranean countries and do not expect luxury but we did expect higher standards in France.

Liked best: location. Perpignan is a lovely town with loads of restaurants, bars & shops and it was easy to get there from the flat.
Liked least: Access 2 floors up on a steep narrow staircase, bed not particularly comfortable, and lots of other minor inconveniences.

Management Response

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, we will take on board all your comments. Our advert specifies that we are situated on the '2nd floor with no lift' which is clearly indicated prior to booking. Our apartment's modern furniture/fixings were hand picked to offer a stylish interior as our photos accurately show, we will review future comments and adjust accordingly if necessary. Our combi boiler operates on demand based on water usage offering unlimited hot water during your stay no matter what time of day. The instruction manuals are in the kitchen cupboard detailing usage instructions for all equipment. We have fixed the toilet seat and checked the plumbing which is all working correctly at the present time. Although we live 1 hrs drive from the apartment we always endeavour to warmly welcome all our guests, taking the time to explain how everything works, answer any questions and are contactable 24/7 via telephone/email to answer any queries or rectify any problems should this be necessary.
