This apartment is in a fantastic location. Right in the middle of the old town, in a gorgeous old building with big cool courtyard, and fabulous solid doors that shut out all the hustle and bustle once you get inside.
Just the right size for two of us, and with the charming narrow stone spiral staircase leading to the upstairs, this _should_ have been perfect.
Sadly, it was let down greatly by being extremely dirty. The kitchen was full of tiny flies and every surface, plate and cup was covered in a thick layer of grease such that anything we wanted to use had to be washed first. We were forced to eat out a lot more than we might have as a consequence. The rest of the apartment was not much better.
There were some other unfortunate details such as insufficient lighting making it difficult to read in the evening, and old/questionable electrics verging on dangerous.
Very sad really, as this place has the potential to be lovely. However I would not recommend this to anyone in its current state.
Travel tip for anyone staying in the area: If you have a car then I would recommend you park in La Comedie as it is relatively well signposted and easy to reach on foot.

this apartment could be delightful. The owner has some interesting features and some artistic taste. But it felt like visiting someone's home who hasn't given a thought to the appliances or cleaning for a long time. Hence the iron was definitely dangerous, held together with tape, there was no quilt cover on the rather grubby quilt in the upper room, there were holes and a rip in the sheet in the main room. No microwave, fans or heaters, fly spattered lampshades, very dirty walls, pins throughout the floor coverings everywhere. The kitchen was very grubby when we got there and we asked for the apartment to be cleaned. The owner arranged for it to be cleaned the next day which got rid of the worst but it was still very grubby.
It's a dark and cold place which might be good in Montpellier summer. Dont go in winter as there is no heating.
The location is great,in the old city,in a secure and quiet location. There are some interesting architectural features including the old and narrow stone spiral staircase to the second room. We were 2 women who rented on the basis of 2 rooms, 2 bathrooms. In fact the second 'bedroom' was a single mattress on the floor next to a desk. The walls were grubby. Not a nice place to stay.
Overall, a professional clean, including kitchen appliances, and better equipping the place would make this place an interesting stay. As it was, it was unpleasant and not worth the price.
