“"Such a lovely holiday"”
Reviewed 21 July 2013 for a stay in July 2013

We had a lovely weeks holiday here in this cottage in July, It was very hot and the weather was great all week. Sue and Paul the owners were extremely helpful as we are young and weren't able to hire a car, they helped us to get around and made us feel really welcome. The cottage is absolutely beautiful and the garden is a great place to relax. Everyone in the village are very friendly and welcoming also the local bar is a nice place to have an evening meal. There are great places around the area to visit, we particularly liked Limoux as it has a pretty square full of bars and lovely restaurants. We miss it already and wish we were still there, we will be returning again!!

Thank you Sue and Paul for everything.

“Not what we expected from the description”
Reviewed 30 June 2013 for a stay in June 2013

The owners' description implies that the outdoor space is 'private', this is not the case. You need to be comfortable with being in close proximity to the owners who live in the adjoining cottage to the one you will stay in, and who also use the space immediately outside both cottages. This is fine, if that is what you are seeking - to share your experience with others. The owners are indeed, very friendly and willing to offer advice on the local area. However, we were looking for our own privacy, not to share it with another family.

Some people have described the cottage as 'homely' and 'traditional' and 'cosy'.....but for us, is was not comfortable or practical for our needs. Confusingly, it is described by the owners as 'spacious and airy'...with....'a modern bathroom'. We don't feel this truly represents the accommodation. The highlight is the view from the bedroom, which is wonderful, but the main living area is dark and is not as large as implied in the description (which describes a dining area and a living area)...in reality it is all one, modestly-sized room. Again, this is fine if that is what you are expecting...but it isn't a room that we would really want to spend time in if the weather (as it has been this year) is poor.

We appreciate, everyone has different tastes when it comes to home décor, but we found it very cluttered with ornaments filling every space. Other reviews have described it as being 'very well equipped', and 'having everything you need'....and in some respects we accept that it does have more than you would expect (such as an Apple pc and Sky TV). But we would rather have less and better equipment (such as a good kitchen knife, a baking tray large enough to warm up a quiche from the local market, and a couple decent size wine glasses) than multiple sets of crockery...after all, this is only a cottage for two people.

Out expectations were based upon the owners description: and it is not accurate to say that the property has a balcony, a terrace, secure parking, a washer, a freezer and 'private' garden. This gives an impression that is misleading and unhelpful.

Having said all that, the owners are very friendly and the location is stunning. And every review in the visitors book raves about this cottage. So it just goes to show, you can't satisfy everyone. But at least the description should be accurate...then you know what to expect before you book.

We are sorry you didn't find your holiday as you expected. That particular week we had family over from UK, three adults who were very quiet and careful not to get in the way. We have 4 garden areas and most were not being used because the weather wasn't that good. We have customers who have been back year after year and love Honeysuckle Cottage and all we have here. That to us says we are getting it right. On holiday lettings we don't say we have a balcony as we haven't got one. I don't know why Trip Advisor says we have. i will look into that. You have obviously not been in a small cottage as ours is big by comparison. When the sun shines it is bright but I think the lack of sun on your holiday really messed your time here up. We cannot guarantee the weather unfortunately but normally the weather in June is very good.

“Excellent break in the most perfect cottage!”
Reviewed 3 April 2013 for a stay in March 2013

I stayed in this beautiful cottage in March 13. I organised the break as a surprise for my partner. The cottage is perfect in every way. The English owners Sue and Paul made us feel extremely welcome and have a wealth of knowledge of the local area. There are lots of places to visit. The cottage is close to the medieval city of Carcassonne which is steeped in history and is also close to the beautiful French towns of Limoux and Mirepoix. We went wine tasting in Limoux and for dinner in Mirepoix. Both highly recommended by Sue and Paul and were excellent. Just a short drive will also take you in to the foothills of the Pyrenees with lots of lovely walks and coffee shops along the way.

The cottage itself is perfect and has all the amenities you would need, from the welcome pack provided upon arrival to complementary toiletries in the bathroom. The views from the cottage are incredible and a short walk through the vines next to the cottage will give you incredible views of the Pyrenees on a clear day. The cottage is situated in the village of Alaigne. It is a traditional French village and very peaceful and quiet. It has a delicious bakery and a bar run by an Irish family. The setting for the cottage is ideal.

I have already planned to return here this summer. Sue has advised that they have a pool (for the hot summer months) and plenty of sunbathing available while Paul has promised to share some of his cycling routes with my partner on one of the bikes available. Hopefully we might catch a bit of the Tour De France while we are there!

Thank you for a wonderful stay Sue and Paul! See you in the summer!

Sue and Paul have thought of everything and take great care to prepare this wonderful cottage for their guests. The welcome is second to none - warm, friendly and helpful. The cottage is very French and charming and situated in a typical, picturesque French village with bakery and cafe/bar in walking distance. Wonderful views and walks through vines. Lots to see and do in the vicinity - Carcassone, Cathar Castles, Canal du Midi and so much more. A super place to stay at any time of the year as evidenced by the number of guests, including us, who visit year after year.

A wonderful couple who have now been to Honeysuckle four times. To us this says it all.
They wont be coming again though as they have just bought a property in the area and will be here permanently in July.
See you soon Andy and Sue.
