Built in the late 1600's, this property change many hands through the monarchy. Originally a gathering place for the Palace visitors, this is the City Hall of Versailles. Some interesting history on the construction of this property as the King did not want any structure visible from the Palace to be above his bedroom view.

Beautiful architecture, carefully maintained.

We stopped here after our visit of the grounds of the Chateau. The market is worth seeing. Also, ice skating was available (5,00 each) but it is not on ice. It was on a plastic flooring and we decided to not try it.

On the way to the castle, we stopped by the city hall to spot the majestic stairs and the ball room.

It is funny to learn that after the French revolution(s) it was built so as to get the first floor above the level of the castle King's room to prove the supremacy of the republic over the monarchy: as a matter of fact the King Louis XIV did not want to see any building in Versailles higher than his bedroom to overlook the city.

G to the market square when it s the day of the open market..great buys and photos to take. Go to the store Eurodif on the corner and explore the four floors and see all the bargains in Versailles

The small town adjacent to the versailles is good to visit. Its nice to stroll around away from the crowded areas and see the local culture.

Every time I visit this cute town, I feel refreshed. it seems that the time has kind of stopped when you arrive from Paris. The pace is not as fast and you see old ladies going to the covered farmer's market. The quality of the fruit, cheese or pastries is excellent and cheaper than in Paris for the same quality.
