Stunningly beautiful. Marie has her own little separate house a little distance from the palace. Louis also has a separate house but you have to buy another ticket for these locations and either walk quite a way or pay for a tram. Believe me, you want to pay for the tram - or you can rent a golf cart which costs more. Lines can get really long waiting to return to the palace from the Petite House later in the morning - we finally got in the fourth tram. Restudy a little history prior to going and the palace comes to life as you walk the halls and visit the opulently decorated rooms. This is quite a distance away from all the other tourist hot spots so you will need to take a cab or the Metro. We took the Metro while in Paris on a few occasions and had no problems. We were extremely mindful & watchful of pick pockets, so as long as you pay attention and have your cash carefully stashed away you should be fine. There is a bit of a walk from the subway station to the entrance - maybe a quarter mile or so. You can purchase your tickets across the street from the Metro station.

Well worth a visit but do buy tickets for a guided visit in advance to avoid ques, guides meet opposite main station. Great Palace but of course no furniture etc. as likely looted in the French revolution, gardens whilst beautifully laid out have n grass and not really worth the extra cost as you can see them from within palace rooms

We recently attended the Saturday evening Music Serenade for the third time in 13 years. To be honest, this week was a huge disappointment due to the large numbers.

In previous years, it was fantastic to be in the Hall of Mirrors with a small group of people enjoying the Serenade. 50-60 people, wonderful.

Last week there were 200 which really spoilt it.

Such a pity, definitely not the highlight that it used to be.

Don’t do the full day, guided tour over before noon, rest of day free time without instructions. Half day would be just right. Pick up at hotel was excellent.

Toured the palace and grounds. Absolutely wonderful. Did the audio tour and learned so much about the family, the history, their impact on historical events. Very easy to tour and navigate.
