If you want to see ALL of Versailles which includes not only the Palace, but also the Petite House and all of the Gardens you might want to consider renting a golf cart.

We spent about 4 hours in the gardens and only saw a small part since it was a Fountain Show day and we went from place to place to see the water shows. If you can go on a day when they are doing the shows do so. Besides the shows we found many interesting areas with hidden grottos, statues and flowers. In a way, I liked this better than the Chateau, although you should also visit it. Even with large numbers of people in the gardens it didn’t feel crowded because the grounds are so large.

We spent a lovely day wandering around these beautifully manicured gardens; made even better by being free! We got to the palace early to avoid the crowds so had the gardens pretty much to ourselves in the morning. Only regret would be that we could have gone on a Monday when the palace is closed (but gardens open) and really had them to ourselves all day!

unfortunately it was the first visit and I did not know how the work with the entrance to the palace so I chose with a walk in the gorgeous garden. everything is millimeter. each plant has its charm and sends you into the atmosphere of the 17th century. for the palace should be taken into account at least half a day during the summer due to the number of visitors

The Palace Gardens are huge and lovingly manicured, which helps to spread out what can be large crowds during the weekends. Entrance to the Gardens is usually free, except for the days with musical shows, and separate from the Palace. There is a lot of ground to cover if you walk, but there are options like golf carts (which are invariably all taken up quickly) and the little train (which is slow and expensive if you are in a group). You can also drive in from separate gates and park in areas close to the Grand Canal, Trianon Palaces and Queen's Hamlet, which helps you cover more of the grounds. Note that bicycles are only allowed in the Parc and not the Gardens proper, but this is a fun way to see more and get some exercise to boot.
