My husband had booked a table for my birthday lunch and it turned out to be the best birthday lunch ever. We were greeted by a friendly waiter who continued to give us fantastic service throughout. He advised us on what turned out to be an excellent wine and looked after us well while remaining discrete. I had the seafood platter (fantastic oysters!) followed by roast peaches with almonds and sorbet and all I can say is that it was all delicious and I don't think could have been bettered. My husband's steak was cooked exactly as he liked it and the pistachio macaron that he had to follow was a work of art. Thank you to all the staff involved for such a lovely meal!

La Rotonde is an institution in Paris, with a rich history dating to the early part of the 20th century artist and writer scene in Montparnasse.

We enjoyed a traditional brasserie-style dinner: escargots in their shell, plus steak frites.

Following a (somewhat) recent renovation, La Rotonde has returned to a sumptuous Belle Epoque decor, complete with red velvet banquettes.

The restaurant doesn't accept reservations (at least, not when we called), but we were seated immediately when we arrived around 7 p.m. on a weeknight.

The service was excellent. The menu was a bit on the pricey side, however. With two glasses of wine, plus dessert and a tip, we spent about $165 (U.S.).

La Rotonde earned international fame when president-to-be Emmanuel Macron went there to celebrate his victory after the first round of the French presidential race in Spring 2017. I had never been there and I was not disappointed. The interior design of the inner room feels like the interior of a boat: shiny wood and reproductions of Modigliani on the walls. The service is swift and friendly (our Chef de Rang was a young Yves Saint Laurent look alike). The menu offers all French classics you expect to find in a Parisian brasserie: we had No. 3 oysters (very fresh and lean) and escargots (soft and tasty), followed by a tartare (finely ground and perfectly seasoned), completed by a tatin. We had a selection of glasses of wine (Pouilly fumé and fuissé, Brouilly and Côte de Bourg), they were all excellent. But the most pleasant surprise: compared to other brasseries like Le Train Bleu and Bofinger, the bill was quite reasonable. A very good ratio quality price. I'll go back.

We ate here during our first night in Paris. We arrived during the rain and were promptly greeted. While busy, we soon were escorted to a booth.

The food was tasty, but nothing exciting. We had pasta and salad. The price was rather expensive for what we had. Service was also average. We sought out other options for our remaining time in Paris.

3 of us ladies popped over to Paris for the day for lunch and a spot of sightseeing. Had already researched lunch venues and chose La Rotonde as it kept appearing in all the review columns. Definitely didn't disappoint ! Had a table outside in the sun watching the world go by. Food was very good - but the lunch was made memorable by the fantastic staff- especially Phillippe. he quite rightly pointed out with a big smile on his face that when in Paris speak french ! - he pointed out our mistakes in our schoolgirl French until we were laughing everytime we ordered anything - would definitely recommend this place - make sure you look inside ! - great décor!
