Owner description: Situated principally on the right bank of the River Seine, it also includes the west end of the Île de la Cité. The arrondissement is one of the oldest in Paris, the Île de la Cité having been the heart of the city of Lutetia, conquered by the Romans in 52 BC, while some parts on the right bank (including Les Halles) date back to the early Middle Ages. It is the least populated of the city's arrondissements and one of the smallest by area, a significant part of which is occupied by the Louvre Museum and the Tuileries Gardens. Much of the remainder of the arrondissement is dedicated to business and administration.

We've stayed in the 1st in 2008 and 2018 because we like to walk to all the historical sights, shopping, dining, etc. We can really cover many areas from the Place de Concorde to Notre Dame, the Louvre, Place Vendome, Rue de Rivoli, etc., etc. We love the old world ambience.

This is a very central district in Paris, right net to the Seine.
Some very famous museums, parks and buildings are located in this district and it is always filled with tourists.

Stayed in this part of town this time, and found it so central to everything!! We could walk to a lot of places, Especially liked the walk to the Tuillerie Gardens, and across the SEine to the Musee d'Orsay, and the Louvre.

Yes, the real centre of Paris is at Notre Dame but this 1st arrondisement has everything. Saint Eustache, Saint Germain, Rue de Rivoli with all shops, Forum des Halles Mall, the palace Royal and ofcourse Louvre. It is always be very crowded so be careful of the pick pockets.

This was my 3rd time in Paris but my 1st time staying in the 1st arrondissement. It is def. the best place to be ( in my opinion). There are so many beautiful things in this section and all within walking distance or a quick hop onto the efficient Metro Line 1.

Thank Kathie G
