“Un nid d'amour a la butte aux cailles”

The apartment:
4 interconnecting rooms: one living room with a sofa bed, leading to one kitchenette, leading to one bathroom area, leading to one small, open, private courtyard.
The decoration is every bit like in the photos above. The exterior and first separation walls show exposed stones, the second separation wall, bricks. It all looks very neat, harmonious, and cleverly organised. The owner has done the decoration himself, as a hobby. You could tell.
The space is judiciously utilised to provide modern comfort and host most of usual domestic equipment, including a washing machine and dryer. It doesn't go totally without trade-offs though. You can't do extensive cooking and, if you have the morphology of a first or second row rugby player, you may feel cramped in the shower (70x70 cm). But in the love nests category, it's a palace.

The location:
La Butte aux Cailles is like a little town and a time capsule within the city, where you can witness the traditional French way of life, or 'art de vivre'. Wake up early. Go and buy your morning croissants in the nearby 'boulangerie', on the way crossing fathers or mothers sending their offspring to the local nursery or primary school before going to work. On Friday or Sunday, go to the fresh market and stroll between displays of cheeses, fruits and vegetables gathered from the different regions of the country. The local, overcrowded, swimming pool, one of the oldest of Paris, is an experience too.
There are a number of cafes and restaurants in the streets near the top of the mound (butte means mound in French), where the apartment is situated. This hasn't really altered the nature of the environment; it reached a stage of development where it brings livelihood, not nuisance.
20 meters from the apartment door is a pathway that goes downhill through a park to the Corvisart Metro station. This is your immediate gateway to Paris…
Particularly accessible are 'Denfert Rochereau' (Les Catacombes), 3 stations away, and 'Bir-Hakeim' (The Eiffel Tower), 9 stations further, on the same line.
If you relish the glitter, hustle and bustle of a capital city but appreciate reaching back a more relaxed haven in the evening, this is a place for you.

The welcome:
I felt like being received by a family friend in Paris.

Butte-Aux-Cailles is a special location at the hearth of Paris. The studio apartment was in the core of it! Even with my 10 months son we had so good days but i prefer this place for young love who would like to feel and live Paris. The studio was so comfortable for a couple

“Friendly welcome, beautiful apartment with attention to detail and lovely area”

We had a great welcome starting with travel advice from the airport and were met by our hosts at the train station. The apartment was beautifully finished with lots of attention to detail and some lovely guides to the local area, produced by our host. Little details such as bottled water in the fridge, teas, coffee, condiments, washing powder, nice shower gel and shampoo made it feel like a 4* apartment despite the bathroom being quite small if you are tall. The area is lovely with very few tourists and lots of lovely places to eat and drink right on the doorstep. For those that love their food(as we do) there are great markets, boulangeries, fromageries and patisseries . It was easy to get to central Paris both on foot and by the metro a few hundred yards away but it was hard not to come back to Butte aux Cailles in the evening for the restaurants, friendly atmosphere and cosy apartment.. If i was being picky, the only criticism was a very noisy but comfortable sofa bed, which squeaked every time you rolled over. Our hosts were so friendly and helpful and I would love to go back and stay again.
