Not as big as the real thing in New York but still an impressive sight and worth visiting especially on a river boat trip

Definitely worth seeing if you are in the area. Sadly when we visited, the river was very high so the island it stands on was flooded. We couldn’t get into the island and so could only see it from a distance on the river bank.

We viewed the statue from the west side of the river. I suggest if you don't walk down to the island that you view it from the east side - since she had her back to us. You could get a nice view of the statue with the Eifel Tower behind her if you go to the Mirabeau Bridge further down the river.

France gave the Statue of Liberty to America on the occasion of the centenary of the American Independence of 1776.
The project was finalized in 1870.
Once completed, it was packed in 214 containers and shipped to New York!

The french version statue itself was given to the city of Paris in 1889 by the American community in Paris to commemorate the centennial of the French Revolution. The gift was given to highlight the historically close bond between France and the United States, and reaffirm the dedication of the two nations to the republican ideal on which they were founded.

This Pont de Grenelle Statue of Liberty was installed some three years after the New York Statue of Liberty, and in fact was originally one of the working models made whilst preparing to construct the “real thing.”

It only 22m high, but it's still quite impressive and faces west, towards its 'big sister' beyond the seas.
