Owner description: This popular candy store, which has been open since the 1700s, has a historic ambience to go along with its wonderful sweets.

I've been into the La Mere de Famille on Rue Cler about 10 times this year, and while the employees are all extremely snotty, their chocolate is excellent. The chocolate covered orange peels, dark chocolate discs (palettes?) and chocolate ganache squares are amazing. So to sum it up, pricey, with unimpressive service, but the chocolate is worth it.

Walked in on our way to Montmartre and bought some chocolate and candied fruits. Excellent service and a good place to get souvenirs to bring home

We stopped in to get gifts to bring home for Christmas. After a few samples we ended up getting gifts for ourselves as well. The staff were very helpful and accommodating of our attempts at French even though they spoke English.

This chocolatier, which apparently began at Rue Faubourg Montmartre, is fantastic. What a joy it was to feast on the sights and smells and -- of course -- tastes of their marvellous creations. If only I had gone in earlier, we would definitely have brought more delights home with us.

As others have said, this was Julia Child's favorite chocolate store, and with good reason. Everything we've tried was sinfully delicious.
