This chocolatier, which apparently began at Rue Faubourg Montmartre, is fantastic. What a joy it was to feast on the sights and smells and -- of course -- tastes of their marvellous creations. If only I had gone in earlier, we would definitely have brought more delights home with us.

As others have said, this was Julia Child's favorite chocolate store, and with good reason. Everything we've tried was sinfully delicious.

Shopping for chocolate in Paris is always difficult - there are so many choices and they are all very good. I recently discovered A La Mere de Famille after reading a reference to it in a Food magazine. There are a number of shops around the city - my favorite is on rue Montorgueil in the old Les Halles area. Sitting on a cobblestone street, it was the perfect picture of a French chocolate shop. The selection of chocolates is amazing and there are many things here that you don't see elsewhere. We fell in love with several of the choices and stopped again coming back from the Marais one afternoon - there is also a shop near the Pompidou Center. So stop in and try to imagine as you make your selections what it must have been like for Julia Child to discover this shop. The chocolate is excellent and the little orange packages make a great gift - if you can bring yourself to share!

My daughter and I stumbled into this place after noticing how many Parisians were carrying stylish little bags with the la Mere de Famille logo on them. This place is tiny, so if you don't see many people inside, pop in quickly. Service was extremely friendly and the chocolates are delicious, the best we've had on our trip. Highly recommend.
