“Not as great as we thought it would be”

We stayed here for one week in June with a larger group and were not very happy overall with the stay. First the good...the location is nice and Montparnasse is a safe neighborhood with bistros, restaurants and shopping very much in the immediate area. Plus the Metro station is steps away from the front door. Now the not so good...I get the place is older and you should expect a classic French flat but the problem we had was that it was dirty...so much so we called Steve who sent a cleaning crew over. While Steve was at the flat, he did make some snarky comments on the choice of food we had bought (too American I guess for a guy who used to live in the States). I would also say that the flat needs some updating specially the first floor bathroom and the kitchen. Please also understand that there are personal items everywhere (a lot of stuff).

This is the first and only time this has ever happened in 6 years of renting. The faulty housekeeper was fired instantly upon your call. The house was thoroughly cleaned again within hours. The bathroom is recent and in "as-new" condition. The bathroom--and the personal belongings, which consist of antiques, paintings, ancient books and old collectors items --are completely visible on the site and so should come as no surprise. As I clearly say on the site, this is a home and not a "rental property". All the kitchen equipment is new. As for "snarky remarks" I think that fairly unlikely, as other reviewers' good opinion of me as a host tend to show.

Our family of 8 adults and 2 children stayed at Villa Picasso and really enjoyed our stay. The place is large with an open living space downstairs which was decorated with all kinds of wonderful and interesting objects. It has the same feel as an artist's studio and was unlike anything we have stayed at before. Steve, the owner, was an incredibly helpful host and was very informative with all our enquiries. I highly recommend Villa Picasso to travellers looking for an interesting place to really immerse into the Parisian life!

Words and pictures cannot describe the magnificence of this apartment. The location, the light, the rooms, and overall feel were incredible. From the photos, we knew it would be great, but it was so much more!

Steve is helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly landlord.

We cannot wait to stay here again.

“Living like a Local at Villa Picasso!”
Reviewed 26 June 2015 for a stay in May 2015

A couple weeks after our whirlwind dream vacation, this is the first time to sit down and remember how wonderful our trip went thanks to choosing the Villa Picasso instead of booking hotel rooms for our family of 8.

Our first great memory began when Steve courteously met us at the door of Villa Picasso despite our being delayed 2 hrs due to baggage claim issues and rush-hour traffic/accidents en route from the airport. He’d previously agreed to allow us early check in so we could drop off luggage and immediately begin to explore the delights of Paris and make the most of our 5 days there.

Fond memories continued by exploring the charming Villa Picasso and each claiming our own territory during our days of living like a local Parisian. The Villa is in a quiet, safe, residential neighborhood yet only steps away from the convenience of the Metro and train station. We quickly and easily got to our favorite sights without needing multiple connections, which helped greatly in progressing through our long list of “must see” sights.

Building more memories, we began each day early with a quick breakfast in the cozy kitchen, extensively walked throughout Paris and returned late to the Villa each night. It was with a feeling of great relief to walk our last few steps from the Metro to “come home” and gather together to relax, unwind with wine and snacks from nearby markets, and relive our moments at the Catacombs, Eiffel Tower, Seine River, Versailles, Loire Valley castles, varied museums and cathedrals, etc.

Thanks to the convenient location and with amenities providing much more than a hotel room in a busy tourist area, we were able to see all our eagerly anticipated sights during our all-too-short stay. These wonderful memories of our family vacation will be cherished for a lifetime!

Liked best: The location, the gracious owner
Liked least: quirkiness of electrical and water, and peeling plaster ceiling in bathroom, but to be expected even in a well-maintained beautiful old home like Villa Picasso
