My wife and I had a very nice lunch here. The view over the mouth of the Rance river are great. This is one of the only restaurants in St. Malo that has an elevated view over the city walls. You sit on top of the old city walls and can watch the people go by on the walk around the walls, watch the boats go up and down the mouth of the Rance river, and watch the tide come in and out on the beaches. And the savory galettes, salads, sweet crepes, and local ciders make for a great lunch by the sea. At many places in a town like this, with this view, you'd expect to get killed on price for bad service and crummy food. This is not the case at Le Corps de Garde. Go. Eat. Sit. Watch the tides.

This place was close to the hotel where we stayed, and for the particular night we visited the rain was pouring down, so we just went for the nearest restaurant. The place is quite complex, as it has several dining areas, some in the old, stone-fenced house, and some on a covered terrace overlooking the bay. The latter is probably for the tourists wanting the overview of the bay while dining, and indeed, the view is magnificent. The interior in this part of the restaurant is not so interesting though, wooden benches and stone slab tables, surely good for wild parties, but less interesting for the atmosphere. It is clearly a popular place, so we were lucky to get seats, although it was outside the main tourist season. The waitresses were nice and helpful. We had a crepe with smoked salmon and wine to go with it. In addition to the salmon was a rather heavy cream, which was too rich to our taste. The wine was good, and we rounded off with coffee before leaving. We had a nice evening despite the bad weather. Probably better for sunset with clear skies, but then one must for sure order a table well in advance.

This restaurant would not seat me as a solo traveler. Not sure why. They had large tables with open seats.

We were simply walking around the ramparts with friends and came across this nice little place overlooking the bay.

As it was getting cold, we decided to stop in for cider and crepes, and boy were we pleased we did!

We got a great place near a window in order to soak in the view, and were promptly take care of. A nice young lady took our drink orders, then roughly 5m later was serving them to us as we ordered our sweet dessert crepes.

I had a warm applesauce & caramel crepe with whipped cream on the side that was truly wonderful!

We enjoyed our time here. I recommend this place for the eats as well as the view!
