We have just returned from a lovely week at Domaine Tournesol. The gite is definitely the best that I have ever stayed in. It is immaculately clean and has every comfort you could require. For sunny days we had the lovely outdoor pool and a garden, a 'patio' and a sheltered eating area. For rainy days we had shelves of books and games and Sky television and a supply of DVD's. And, of course, a ready supply of marvellous wine from the surrounding vineyards. We went by plane and had to keep our baggage to a minimum, but that was no problem as towels (including pool towels) etc were all provided. Kay and Neil were very friendly, welcoming us in the midst of a thunderstorm with glasses of wine and nibbles, but they were never intrusive. They were always available when needed as they live next door, but they were totally invisible unless we did need them. The bed was comfortable, the shower was brilliant and the kitchen even had a dishwasher (which we did not use as we are too old fashioned!) Kay and Neil told us to help ourselves to the fruit and vegetables in the garden and, during our stay, there were lots of raspberries and tomatoes as well as the occasional strawberry, aubergine and pepper. The garden and pool are very private as the gite has just a couple of neighbours but is otherwise very much in the middle of nowhere - or to be more precise, exactly between the villages of Crouseilles and Madiran, both within walking distance. Madiran has a lovely breadshop and a couple of good eating places, Crouseilles has the marvellous Chateau Vineyard and 'degustation', where you can take your empty water bottle to fill with wine 'on tap', or alternatively buy some wine a little more expensive and more quality. My only negative point is that it is quite a distance to get to the main tourist attractions of the area, but even so they are quite manageable within the day. To be honest, once you get here you really do not want to leave - even for a day. Best tip - sit with a glass of wine on the back patio and watch the wildlife in the meadow and just spy a glimpse of the Pyrenees in the distance, beyond the pool and between the trees.
