“Wonderful”
Reviewed 21 October 2014 for a stay in April 2014

Staying with Chantal was the highlight of our time in France. Les Eyzies-de-Tayac is located on a beautiful branch line of the French railway network and Chantal’s accommodation is only a short walk from the station. Even without a car we were able to travel comfortably around the area by train. The Gite St Martin is at the junction of two French Grandes Randonnées walking routes – No 6 and 36. http://www.gr-infos.com With Chantal’s picnic hamper and words of local advice we set off to explore much of the local area on foot. A genuine interest in our adventures as we returned at the end of each day made our ‘homecoming’ to the Gite and Chantal even more welcoming. The relaxing gardens that surround the charming Gite and not to mention the swimming pool added so much extra to the experience that we had. We will be back.

“Just perfect”

The accommodations were outstanding and the host was so helpful. She gave us all the local places and when Air France went on strike, she got on the phone and assisted us.

“A great gîte, with everything nearby”
Reviewed 15 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We had a great stay. The gîte is located a short distance (1km) from the town centre, so everything you could wish for is a short walk away. The house was fully furbished, and had a lovely rustic character to it.

Finally, the high tech pool (non-chlorine and heated(!)) was simply amazing!

“A lovely property with helpful and friendly owners in a beautiful part of France.”
Reviewed 11 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We all (myself, my wife, and three 'children' aged 22, 17 and 14) thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cottage is very characterful and comfortable, with plenty of space for the five of us. The location is very peaceful and the surrounding gardens give a real feeling of being in the French countryside. The pool is great, although the fact that it had to be closed on occasion when the owner was out was a bit inconvenient (although I fully understand the health & safety considerations). Chantal and John are very friendly and helpful without being obtrusive in any way, and Chantal recommended various local places of interest for us to visit.
The village of Les Eyzies is a short walk away and is a very attractive place with everything that you could want, including the essential boulangeries and some good restaurants. The supermarket behind the petrol station is expensive though, unless it's an emergency you are better off driving to Le Bugue and the large Intermarche there.
For the cottage to be perfect, the kitchen and downstairs bathroom are in need of refurbishment/replacement and the sitting room/lounge area, although comfortable, is a little small. This is being picky though, and we would certainly return as Gite St Martin is a truly delightful place and there is so much to see and do in the surrounding area.

“C'est très magnifique!”
Reviewed 10 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We stayed in Gite St. Martin for 2 weeks in July/August 2014. The accommodation was absolutely lovely. John was there to greet us on our arrival and was available if we had any queries or concerns. The gite was clean, tidy and very well equipped with plenty of room for the 5 of us. It was so peaceful and relaxing and even on the slightly wetter days, having the covered patio meant we were still able to sit out and enjoy meals and games outside.
The beds were very comfortable and there was always plenty of hot water available. Having towels and bedding provided meant that we had more room in the car to take home wine and delicious food from the region!
The best bit of the gite was the pool. It is heated, a good size, immaculately clean and being salt water meant that we didn't smell of chlorine all the time! We also were able to enjoy pretty much exclusive use of it the whole time we were there which was a real luxury as we have previously been on camping holidays with over crowded, noisy pools!
The location of the gite was ideal. Close enough to the town so we could walk in for meals and not have to worry about having a drink, but far enough away to still have the peace and tranquility we were looking for. There were some lovely restaurants in the town. We went to Bar Alexandre on our first night. Had a very tasty Salade Perigordine. Our last night we went to Pizzeria La Milanaise, which did a delicious entrecôte. The other food looked very impressive too! I wasn't so sure about the Prune Cognac after though!
The area has plenty to see and do for all ages. Having visited the region last year, we didn't do as much sight seeing this time but we can highly recommend a canoe trip down the Vezére or Dordogne rivers, Sarlat and Les Eyzies markets, the mini golf at Montignac, Chateau Castelnaud, Les Jardins de Marqueyssac or any of the caves in the area.
The only downside to our holiday was having to come home :-(
John and Chantal were the perfect hosts and could not do enough for us to ensure that we had a fantastic holiday. We would definitely love to visit again.
