Brilliant use of technology make this a really interesting experience. Some of it could be considered a bit to clever but overall it's done really well .
Would have liked more than one glass at the end at extra cost of course .
Took the boat back - very pleasant

Interesting building and easy to get to on tram b. Museum has some fun attractions (and it was not busy on a hot weekday while france was playing in world cup) but be aware it is only 1 floor of building. Floor 8 has good views but the wine selections on the day were came were below average (and we tried 4 different offerings).

We didn't set out to visit the Cite Du Vin, rather the Musee du Marine Bordeaux. It was well advertised and was supposed to have an exhibition of Monet seascapes. It not open yet so beware of that one. So we went to the Cite Du Vin. It just OK. Get the tram from the centre of Bordeaux, €3 return, I would not walk it. The Cite is surrounded by building sites which I'm sure will be lovely someday. The whole place is a hymn to wine making, that's good, but it's not a stunning experience, lots of talking heads on video and lacking any humour. The bell jars for identifying smells asssociated with wine are the best, but I would not have been sorry if the Cite Du Vin was closed also. Its €20 in with a glass of wine thrown in. Only if you have to.

Visited for the second time and it’s as good as it was the first time. If you are interested in wine, this is for you. The museum explains the origins of wine, how the gapes are grown as well as the various bouquets in both red and white wine. Price at €20 includes one wine tasting on the 8th floor with excellent views of the river and the surrounding area. The cite du vin is in an area that is being developed and in time it will be an excellent area to visit.

A stunning modern building houses the exhibition which is on the 2nd floor, your 20 Euro entry ticket also gives you access to the 8th floor and a glass of wine whilst you admire the view.
There is a wealth of information available, however it’s all a bit gimmicky with an interactive theme where you use a scanner. This inevitably creates bottlenecks/ maintenance issues for the equipment and I was left feeling that the method of sharing information was decided by the pursuit of technology at all costs.
However that’s maybe just me- it certainly contains a wealth of information on the world of wine.
