Imagine being excited to stay at a hotel that is just around the corner from the Christmas markets in Strausbourg.

Then imagine arriving in Strausbourg to closed city entrances, having to ask the police what to do, calling the hotel and being given only the names of three area parking lots, having to park at a parking lot blocks from the hotel (which you don't know where it is anyway) and lugging your baggage around in driving winds, snow and rain for an hour, while you try to locate your hotel. Sound absurd? No, this is what happened to us last week.

Apparently, Strausbourg decided to block off all downtown (Christmas market) entrances to vehicles. Smart move to keep terrorist trucks and cars out. Dumb move for there to be no communication about it for tourists expecting to park at or near their hotel.

You'd think the hotel would have the courtesy and foresight to send an email to all their clientele warning them, and giving them extremely specific and detailed information on how to find the location (after parking and lugging luggage around the city).

Not at all. No advance warning, no explanation of where to park, no map of how to get from the parking lot(s) to the hotel. Nothing. We weren't the youngest or oldest of the hotel's clients. I feel very, very badly for elder and handicapped customers. Shameful.

This hotel is really nice, great welcome, excellent price and located near the cathedral, close to the old centre, shops and restaurants. A little noisy on a Saturday night but double glazing worked wonders. Very comfortable bed! Only one room left when we called the night before (a single) but with a 140cm bed, we decided to go for it. We were only charged a single and second breakfast was on the house! Breakfast was amazing with local produce (lovely bread and cheese) taken in front of the hotel terrace. Superb place! Definitely going back!

This hotel is right in the center of Strasbourg, on one side of the cathedral. Still is lays away from the touristic crowded cathedral front square, thus being a quieter place.
Staff was warming and friendly, really nice. They offered me a city map on the arrival and stored my luggage from some hours at departure.
Hotel is small but charming. The room was OK, not too big but also not too small. The problem with the rooms facing the back narrow alley, is that next building is a restaurant and the exhaust system is installed on the alley, thus you have food smell and engine noise until 23:30, when it closes. It's not possible to open the window of the room before that time, which during a hot day, as the one I stayed here, is not good or easy.
Bathroom is also a bit tricky, as there is not a bathtube, nor a polyban shower. The place is something in between, not easy to climb to or stay in (small space), it can even be dangerous for elderly people; not a good idea at all.

Room Tip: avoid rooms to the back alley.

We booked a last minute room due to a bad experience with the hotel we were originally supposed to stay at. The staff at the Suisse Hotel was incredibly kind and helpful.Clean rooms, great location and fair price. Highly recommended.

The location is very good, in the back of the Cathedral so you are close to all Strasbourg wonders but avoid the herds of tourists visiting for the day. I have been told some rooms have a cathedral view, I didn't have this chance. The room was clean and well equiped, although quite small. The hotel makes the best of two nearby houses that have been merged, hence there are quite a lot of stairs - not a place for people having difficulties to move, but it gives some charm. The breakfast was a rather good buffet. Just a detail - both at arrival and at breakfast I had to wait a few minutes to get served - maybe my bad luck, maybe not enough people or motivation... Otherwise employees were welcoming and helpful.
