The art is presented in themed galleries in a wonderful building. Particularly impressive were the extremely informative blurbs that accompany every item. Loads to learn!

I can't say I'm huge into museums but this one was nice, if you have time, definitely worth an hour of your day.

Having lived in manchester for over 30 years, i have never visited the gallery before. I decided on th esput of the moment to go in and was very plesantly surprised. For a non-arty, it was just the right amount of culture to pass an hour. Its free but pay a donation. There are lockers for your coats if needed and a cafe but i didnt eat here as it was very busy. I will re-visit soon.

Thank Helen S

Beautifully gathered exhibition of a very prominent artist (dates 1844-1933) who is local, Manchurian, didn't join one particular art movement, but did use subjects that mainstream artists use - religion, nudes - a history lesion of what was expected in itself. The exhibition title "light and hope" reflects her use of light but not an impressionist at all - her hope for her subjects - a half-full artist and her support for women's votes suffrage, whose campaign paralleled the years of her lifetime. I think that there might have been 80 different works in four galleries (sorry my memory may have got this wrong). My favourite was a slightly expressionist close up forest scene (about six crossing branches) with traces of very bright red green and silver. There is a short exhibition video - 8 minutes - good. The exhibition is open for a year - DONT MISS IT - and its completely free!!
