Grateful for the stay at the Barnacre Cottages. The Sharples really know how to take care of their guests, especially ones from the U.S. like my family! They made us feel right at home (and what a beautiful home it was). This was a highlight in our trip - memories of family dinners around the big kitchen table, late night family talks and laughs, family walks around the property (with the hens following along), and family adventures in nearby Lancaster, Lake District, and Heysham's Head. I'll definitely stay here again & invite others to do the same.
We spent a wonderful 3 night weekend break -a sort of reunion-with us all coming from scattered areas of the country- in The Old Stables. The owners, Sue & Terry, were the perfect hosts-very discreet but friendly & welcoming.Sue had baked a gorgeous, huge, Victoria sponge for our late evening arrival & Terry was there on my arrival to show me round.
Long walks were taken in the glorious, but very muddy, countryside surrounding the cottages with the warmth of an Aga to welcome us back!
The cottage was superbly equipped - highlights being the Aga, the huge American style fridge complete with ice-maker, and the sheer comfort & warmth.
Would love to go back in the Spring/Summer-we would all thoroughly recommend Barnacre.
PS Forgot to mention the very friendly hens who were keen to enter the cottage in the mornings!
When we knew we were coming to a family wedding in Scorton over the jubilee weekend, I decided to look for a self catering cottage locally so that we could all stay for a week, catch up with family and enjoy the gorgeous scenery. We booked The Old Stables, which sleeps eight, thinking it was simply an alternative to a hotel.
Well, what a delightful surprise we had when we arrived at the loveliest cottage with flowers round the door, homemade cakes on the table and a fabulous kitchen complete with aga! The open plan living area was great for preparing food in the well laid out and well equipped kitchen, whilst still being involved with the rest of the group.
And if you are thinking that maybe the aga is a bit daunting as I did, don’t! Terry came to welcome us and explained how it worked and within 10 minutes I was smitten (with the aga, not Terry although he is a very good host),
The conservatory area is light and airy with automatic windows to act as climate control and the really homely huge sofa’s were a delight at the end of the day to chill and maybe watch tv.
I could go on about feeding the chickens, the beautiful garden, the hospitality of our hosts, including a gift of a delicious box of jubilee chocolates. The fab fridge and freezer delivering a constant supply of ice and chilled water, oh and did I mention the aga! But I think you should go and find out for yourselves!
We would definitely recommend this property.
Barncre Cottages really are everything the "tin" says. We recently booked and stayed in the The Old Stables, using the cottage as a meeting point and break for our famiy of 8 adults, 1 toddler and 1 baby. We genuinely can not say enough about the place - for us it was just perfect. The size of the living rooms, the space inside and outside and the overall comfort was wonderful and even better than we could have hoped for. We all loved hanging around in the conservatory just catching up and chatting, it is a room you can totally relax in and very private. The location of the cottages is great for getting out and about either by foot or car and is a very quick short drive to Garstang if need be for supplies. It was great to meet Sue and Terry and they really do go out of their way to make you feel welcome, nothing at all was a hassle for them and the homemade treats on arrival were both very much appreciated and delicious. Everyone in our party loved the place and even though some of them had only travelled a short distance, they all said they would love to go back - we most definitely will be and can not wait until next time.
I booked this cottage to stay with extended family and friends for my daughter's 1st birthday weekend. The size of the living areas is amazing and the functionality of the cottage were fantastic. We had arranged to go out for the birthday lunch, but due to the enormous kitchen and extensive lounge and conservatory areas, decided it would be better to get food in and relax. There is also a games room (for the boys)!!!
We can't recommend this holiday cottage enough, and will most definitely be coming back to stay again and again.
