While in Kilkenny for a few days, we visited Rothe House and Gardens on Monday 25th June. It’s amazing to see what lies behind a deceiving small facade. It is a very interesting place and is refreshingly informal. The gentleman from whom we were buying our tickets was very quietly pleasant and kind. He’s a great Ambassador for Kilkenny and it’s tourism business.

We learned quite a bit about the town's history during the tour, many artifacts are very well conserved and presented. The grounds have a "old feel" to them, and transports the visitor to a far earlier, if turbulent time.

That's a 3 house combination, with a massive dimension and beautiful gardens, in my opinion the top floor wood work on the roof it's fascinating, but I think it's a bit to expensive, there's no guide tours and you only get a piece of paper with some facts, also loads of items have been removed for preservation.

Each floor, each walled area, each new room is a little bit of a joy to experience and then completing your journey in that beautiful garden. I just really love this little surprise place across from Smithwicks

Incredible family gardens in the middle of the city. The building itself could benefit from a guided walk or docent who could explain the history.
