Owner description: This 15th-century castle is the subject of numerous historical myths, including that of a ghost who still makes appearances at the castle.

We visited the castle in the beginning of June, 2018, we walked all around the outside enjoying the beautiful landscape and then went inside for a tour. The tour lasted about 45 minutes and was amazing. I learned so much about the history of the castle and the family that built it and why things were constructed the way it was and it was greatly informative. Our tour guide did a wonderful job of explaining it all and made it very interesting. I was sad when the tour was over I could have listened to her all day tell more tales of the castle! I cannot remember our tour guides name, but I am sure they would all do a great job! Take the tour if you have the chance, one of my favorite adventures when we visited Killarney!!

We were passing time waiting for the weather to clear, looking for a diversion, when we decided to pay the fee to visit this castle. It was well worth the time and money. This is one of the best examples of a tower house which allowed us to be able to imagine how they lived. Our tour guide Patrick was fantastic providing interesting historical information with a fun, engaging style.

We signed up for a tour of the castle which lasted about 45 minutes. Not only did we learn about the history of the castle itself but also how people lived during that era; i.e., how they protected themselves, where they slept, what they ate, how they entertained, even where they went to the bathroom! The castle is located on a large lake so you can also sign up for boat rides or horse and buggy rides.

You can walk round the ramparts of this castle for free. And it's in a beautiful setting with the lake and mountains in the background (which probably wasn't the reason why it was built there!). You only have to pay to go inside the keep and for some reason it's by tour only which usually puts us off so we didn't bother so can't comment on how wonderful it looks inside. We did have to report the state of the ladies toilet however which was atrocious. It was mid-morning on the Monday and they hadn't been looked at from the weekend so you can imagine the state, though to be fair it's people that use them that leave a mess (can't imagine what they do at home).

So unless you really want to see inside, just get some nice photos from without.

We didn’t go inside but the grounds and lake views are gorgeous. Worth the quick stop on hop on | hop off bus.
