The location was close to all that Galway had to offer. They had free parking, a friendly helpful staff and the breakfast was very good. It mad a good base for exploring Galway and a day trip to the Aran Islands.

Thank you for your kind response.

We are always happy to hear that our staff were helpful and friendly. It is something we pride ourselves on here at the Western. Our location is hard to beat. All tour operators are close by, with some even collecting from the hotel.

Kind Regards,
Aoife Mahon

Initial appearance not the greatest - seemed slightly dated. However it provided a comfortable quiet room, a good night`s sleep and a lovely breakfast. The hotel was idealy placed for exploring Galway town.

I stayed at the Western Hotel for 4 days with my daughter. I chose to stay at the hotel because it was centrally located, within walking distance from the bus & train stations, from where most of the sightseeing tours departed. It also had a 24 hour reception desk , a restaurant and free car parking (although we did not need it). The hotel does not offer free breakfast, which I found a bit odd, since parking is free for all hotel patrons. Perhaps, breakfast should be free for people who do not use the car park. The hotel offers a good Irish breakfast , with plenty of choice, priced at 10 euros for adults & 5 euros for kids.

The double room that we stayed in was big, clean and nicely furnished. The bed was very comfortable and we slept very well. The bathroom had a bath and a shower and plenty of hot water. Room was serviced daily. I must add that the hotel has some lovely housekeeping staff, who came to our rescue, on the first day we arrived. My daughter had inadvertently jammed/broken the lock of our suitcase, within a few minutes after entering our room. Help arrived in the form of two lovely housekeeping ladies, who proceeded to saw off the lock and rescued us from our first holiday glitch in Ireland! We were very thankful to them, since they brought smiles back on our stressed faces!

Another attractive feature for me was that the hotel had a bar, where traditional Irish music was played, which I wanted to enjoy as part of my Irish holiday. I was hoping that the bar would allow my daughter in to enjoy the music, which started after 8 pm. I was very happy that they did. And so was she- it's the first time she has been in a bar late at night! We got to spend 2- 3 hours in the bar and enjoy some wonderful, traditional Irish music, in the company of Michael and Breda, a lovely Irish couple from Kildare, who turned out to be staying in the room, next to ours. Michael and Breda told us about the big Hurling Championship game between Galway and Limerick on Sunday in Dublin, which Michael (a Limerick supporter) wanted to go to. Prior to that, we had never heard of Hurling ever! Suddenly all the flags festooned over Galway started to make sense! We were in Dublin on the day of the final and saw both Galway and Limerick fans in the city centre, but don't yet know who won!

I have no hesitation in recommending the hotel at all, especially if you want to stay close to all the facilities and enjoy traditional Irish music (check which nights it's on), without leaving your hotel premises!
