Owner description: Ireland's premier garden is a green oasis situated in the leafy suburb of Glasnevin, not far from Dublin city centre. It is just under 50 acres in size and home to over 17,000 different plant species. Famous for its Victorian glasshouses: the Curvilinear Range, designed by Richard Turner, and the Great Palm House, Ireland's only tropical rainforest. Outdoor features include the rose and rock gardens, double herbaceous borders, the pond and river walks, the organic fruit and vegetable garden and wild Ireland, the native conservation area. Guided tours of the Gardens all year round- Sundays at 12.00pm & 2.30pm, admission free. Monday-Saturday 11.30am & 3.00pm, €5 pp. Pre-booked tours by arrangement.

We walked about a half hour to get to the gardens, but public transport might have been a better idea because they cover quite a large area so you could easily spend half a day walking around them. The gardens and greenhouses are stunning. Best of all, it's free and so peaceful! We really enjoyed being there. There is a cafe there which we didn't go into, and several cafes on the street nearby as well.

Enjoyed a lively afternoon there - nice different areas with a specific motto. Quiet area and retreat when you need just a break from the busy streets of Dublin and there is no entrance fee

Perfect time to visit Botanical Gardens. We were there fore 3-4 hours and enjoyed every minute. The Rose Garden was absolutely wonderful with the most wonderful smelling roses. The Glass houses were also great. Just a wonderful day to spend in nature if you love flowers.

Why hang about the city when the weather is fine..half an hour walking will get you to these great gardens.

There are lots of shaded spots where you can relax and enjoy watching locals and visitors.

The highlight for us was the rose garden which was outstanding.

You can easily cross into Glasnevin Cemetery from the gardens.
