We did not get to stay in this hotel because I got numerous emails stating that my Credit card would not go through however they were still going to charge me and then I got emails saying that the whole hotel was under renovation and there would be scaffolding everywhere but still my reservation would be held and I would be charged… I found this very unprofessional for a supposedly upstanding historic hotel… Needless to say I changed my reservation and went elsewhere.

Amazing historic hotel....beautifully maintained and you really sense the history and majesty of this building. Currently undergoing an external facelift but don't let that put you off! Once through the front door you will see the quality. I was booked in here by my customer but more than happy with theur choice. Cl8se to some amazing bars and eateries you don't have to go to Temple Bar as the prices there are crazy and the pubs here are both reasonable and more authentic in my opinion? The area is arguably the most affluent in Dublin and the St Stephen's area is very classy. I have been to Dublin many many times over the last 30 yrs but the place keeps delivering!! You will never have a bad night out in Dublin!!!

Be aware it is currently undergoing some external refurbishment with scaffolding out the front. Really well located and only a 5-10 max minute walk (through the lovely park if you wish) to the main town. The red open top bus stops the other side of the park and the airport express bus stop is just around the corner (bus 757). We had a good welcome and were given a lovely top floor room around the back of the hotel overlooking a small garden and a park beyond that so we did not notice any building work noise. Very quiet until late at night as when the windows were open the late night revellers in town could be heard clearly. A good size bedroom with plenty of cupboards and hanging space plus a complimentary drinks tray with kettle and bottles of water topped up daily. The bathroom although small was really nice and the space had been well used with a nice shower in it. Only odd thing was that as the ceiling slanted the windows were of velux type but had no blinds so the room got light early in the morning.
The staff were really friendly and helpful with any queries about Dublin that we had.

We did not pay the 15 euros each for breakfast given the reviews about it and with so many places to get it cheaper nearby it was not a problem. We used the lovely Doheny & Nesbitts pub for breakfast which was a 5 minute walk away and cost 11 euros each for a full and big Irish breakfast or 9 eoros for a smaller mini one.

Would be happy to recommend this small hotel and would use it again if we ever return to Dublin.

Room Tip: Room 415 at the back is nice

Dear Pagey54,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

We delighted to read that you found the hotel to be central, the room to be spacious, quiet and functional. Your compliments have been forwarded to the respective departments.

With regard to the blinds, all velux windows have blinds and since we understand that not all guests might be familiar with the mechanism a staff member is always more than happy to help.

We hope to welcome you back in the near future.

Thank you for choosing Stauntons on the Green.

Kind regards,
Guest Relations

The staff at Stauntons is superior and the location can not be beat. It’s right on the green, steps away from major sites, shopping areas, and restaurants but still quiet at night time. The room was beautifully redone with a nice bathroom (not euro style for those interested/concerned). The staff accommodated every request from storing luggage to printing boarding passes- quickly, with a smile and friendly demeanor.

To start right form the beginning, getting to the hotel was extremely easy. The 747 service from outside the terminal drops off at the St Stephen's Green bus stop after approximately 45 minutes (no changes). There is then a 2 minute walk along the street to the pleasant frontage if the hotel and a few short steps in to reception.

The family room allocated to us (2 adults, 2 boys 14 and 16) was a nice clean room on the first floor. It had 2 double beds and a private shower room which had been built into the corner. The room was a good size and perfectly sufficient for 4 nights out-of-suitcase living. The beds were a little cramped, and 1 double with 2 singles might have been preferable, but more for convenience than anything else. The compact shower room addition was a very pleasant surprise, clean and functioned well. Getting to the room on the 1st floor was not difficult as the 2 flights of stairs up from reception were wide enough, and the stairs themselves low-profile enough to make carrying a suitcase manageable. Another plus point was the fact that the windows could actually be opened when the room got a bit hot

Breakfast each morning was served in the basement restaurant. This was quite roomy, clean and the staff very friendly and efficient - one was not greeted by a room full of tables with dirty dishes each morning. A few cereals, juices and fruit were available for immediate selection, and a limited menu was provided for additional options. Tea, oatmeal, cooked breakfasts were brought quickly and politely when ordered which set us up very well for each day of exploration.

Our 4 day trip was spent out of doors all day every day. As a location for exploring the streets of Dublin this hotel was ideally situated for us. St Stephen's Green makes a very effective buffer to the noise of the main city (our room was at the back so I cannot comment on any in-room noise from St Stephen's Green street). Even in what was a damp and chilly April, it is a pleasant park to walk through or around each morning and evening - and much nicer as a greeting when walking out of the hotel than the face of another building!

Many people have offered reviews of Dublin as a whole, so this review will not cover any great details on this. Suffice to say that in the early evening it was nice to wind down with a stroll around the outside of St Stephens green when most of the traffic is asleep, the street lights are glowing and the people-type activity in the surrounding hotels and restaurants forms a gentle background hum - even teenage boys become quite chatty and blessed with intriguing insights on life during such strolls.

In summary I would definitely recommend this hotel as an easily accessible, perfectly placed and well-priced place to stray for a short family trip to this great city. IT will be top of my list when booking a return visit to Dublin.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quiet.
